"Let's be boyfriends."
That was what it takes for Fern and Arkin to be together. It felt so fast that it didn't sink in right away for the both of them. There are things that they need to adjust and boundaries that they have to cross.
Being a close friend of each other created a gap that they purposely made for their relationship. Now that they stepped into being romantic, closing that gap was actually a challenge for them.
There were many misunderstandings that occur. Like hanging out with other people that would make the other jealous. Choosing other things over each other. Treating the other still like how one would treat their friends. And shut the other out when one is feeling extreme emotions such as sadness, anger, and confusions.
Maybe they were too immature.
Maybe they were so young that they have so many things to adjust.
Or maybe...
They were so insensitive to realize that their love was destructive.
But still...even though they went through break-ups over small things (which is mostly Arkin asking for it), they still continued until their Senior years.
Fern is now in 12th grade and Arkin's on 11th grade. Only two months left before Fern would graduate and enter college.
"Nakasubmit ka na ng application mo?" Arkin asked while they're sitting side-by-side, eating lunch.
"Oo, nagsubmit ako kagabi. Kinakabahan ako," Fern answered as he picked the vegetables on Arkin's plate knowing that the latter won't eat it. "Sa tingin mo ba makakapasa ako?"
"Of course," Arkin nodded without hesitation. "Matalino ka. Your grades since high school are all line of nine. And running for valedictorian ka sa batch niyo ngayon," he explained.
Fern sighed. "Pero iba kasi sa college. Maraming matatalino sa ibang school. Also, napakahigh-standard ng ADU, Aki."
Arkin stopped from eating and turn to face his boyfriend. Fern looked at him, pouting and obviously worried. Arkin couldn't help but to adore the man.
Fern's known for being loud and sociable. Only this soft side of him is exclusive for Arkin. And with that fact, Arkin couldn't help but to feel proud for being able to call this man as his.
"You are the best at everything you do. Hindi ako mapapagod magpaalala sayo na kaya mo. I'll always be your number one supporter," Arkin said with full of sincerity as he touched Fern's hand.
Fern stared at him and wasn't able to stop himself from embracing his boyfriend.
He's happy that he feels like bursting out.
He's so thankful of Arkin and he feels like he couldn't leave without the man by his side, ever.
Arkin is everything to him.
In everything that he do, there's Arkin in it. In every decision, Arkin is with it. In his plans, Arkin is included.
At his age, he was sure of Arkin.
He thought that Arkin will be by his side forever. He will pour everything in him to make Arkin stay. He will give everything in him just to be with Arkin, forever.
Even if he will be left with nothing.
Even if he will lost himself in the process.
