I walked to the train station the next morning with Izuku, Jiro joining us as we arrived at the station. "Hey, Midori," she greeted me.
"Oh, hi," I said as we got on the train. I caught Izuku looking at me, waiting for an introduction. I rolled my eyes, making fun of his shyness. "This is my brother, Izuku Midoriya. Izuku, this is Kyoka Jiro from our class."
Izuku gave a small wave and Jiro nodded in acknowledgement. I saw someone waving at us on the other side of the train, and I turned to see Kaminari's brightly colored hair. I ignored him just to see his reaction.
When we got off the train, Kaminari ran up to us. "Dude, why'd you have to ignore me like that? So rude..."
Jiro rolled her eyes, while I gave him a playful shove. "Attention starved now, are we?" I joked.
"Maybe a little. Oh come on Jiro, quit rolling your eyes at me! I can see you!" Kaminari protested. "I'm dumb, not blind!"
I chuckled with mild amusement and followed Izuku to class. The first class of the day was English, which Izuku and I did fairly well in. When we were kids, we learned a lot of English in the hopes that one day we could visit our dad, but that day never came.
Maths was a bit more of a struggle, but I got through it alright. The period that took up all of Nezu's announcements was a drag, and I used it to talk with Kirishima a bit. Turns out he had a bit of a crush on Bakugo, which I kind of wanted to warn him about, but decided against it. If anyone could mellow out Bakugo, it was Kirishima and his overwhelming sunshiny-ness.
After the announcement period, it was time for the Hero Basic Training. With All Might. This is going to be interesting.
"I AM HERE!! COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A HERO!!" All Might yelled, slamming the door and posing weirdly.
I noticed Jiro flinched a little at his loud volume and reminded myself to scold him later for his inconsiderate actions. While everyone was fawning over All Might, I just sighed in boredom. I looked to my left and noticed that the dual-haired boy next to me was also disinterested.
All Might told us to get changed into our hero costumes and we did. I was wearing a costume that Izuku had designed for me, and had been made by a fairly well-known hero support company. Izuku, on the other hand, was wearing some green rabbit-looking thing that Mom had sewn for him. We'll see how long that holds up.
When we came outside to Ground Beta, I saw another pro standing next to All Might. "Who in the world is that?" some of the kids asked.
"Well, since this is my first year teaching, I've gotten a little bit of help for my first lesson! Can anyone tell me who this hero is?" All Might asked. The dual-haired boy raised his hand. "Anyone other than Todoroki, that is?" the Symbol clarified. Izuku raised his hand, and I sighed internally. Of course Izuku knew who he was. "Yes, young Midoriya?"
"It's the Phoenix Hero: Dabi! He has an agency somewhere in Kyoto, Japan! He's current ranked 48th on the Hero Billboard and as the son of Endeavor he's bound to rise quickly through-"
"Yep, that's me! The wonderful, totally awesome Phoenix Hero!" Dabi interrupted, giving an over the top grin and an enthusiastic thumbs up. He kind of reminded me of a slightly toned-down Present Mic. "Okay, kiddos! Let's get started!" Dabi chirped. "Today, we'll be conducting battle simulations! Meaning-"
"Excuse me sir!" Iida interrupted.
"Please save any questions to the end, got it? I'm sure we'll have time for your inquiries," Dabi said in his over-the-top announcer voice. "Now, today we will be conducting two on two battle simulations! One team, which will be the heroes, and the other team will be the villains! The villain team must guard a super scary bomb weapon hidden somewhere in one of these buildings! The hero team must find and capture the weapon in order to win! The villain team must either prevent this from happening for all fifteen minutes of this exercise or capture the heroes with this very handy dandy capture tape! All Might, did I miss anything?"
"I- er- um- GREAT JOB, DABI!! YOU'VE EXPLAINED THE EXERCISE PERFECTLY!! Now, are there any questions?" All Might asked.
Iida raised his hand. Honestly, the kid was a question-vomiting machine of some sort. "Sir, this exercise seems very dangerous. How will you ensure the safety of your students?"
"Excellent question, kiddo!" Dabi answered, still doing a scuffed Present Mic impression. "I will personally be watching to insure the safety of you the students, while All Might here is providing commentary to any viewers! Now, if there aren't any more questions, LET'S ROCK AND ROLL!!" he whooped.
This is cringe; get me outta here.
I drew my number and saw that I was Team F, paired with some rock-headed kid who didn't talk. He seemed to be very shy, and probably wasn't going to be much help, not that I needed his help anyway.
I could handle myself in a fight.
I was more worried about Izuku when I found out that he would be fighting against Bakugo, the evil hedgehog himself. Thankfully, I didn't have anything to worry about when I saw how well Dabi kept things from going south.
"Dabi is a good hero," I heard Todoroki say under his breath.
"You know him?" I asked.
"He's my brother," Todoroki explained, his tone quiet and serious.
"Your broth- you're Endeavor's son!" I gasped, realising who he was. I couldn't believe it; the son of my favourite hero was in my class!
"Uh, yeah, that's me. It's honestly a lot of expectation to be put on a kid like me, but I'm up for it. Father is a great teacher, and I owe a lot of my skills to him," he admitted.
"Woah, you're Endeavor's kid?" Kaminari butted into our conversation. "That's like, super cool!"
"Yeah," Jiro agreed.
Kaminari and Jiro had gotten extremely lucky by being paired with each other. I felt kind of jealous.
"THE HERO TEAM WINS!!" All Might yelled, breaking me out of my trance. I looked and saw Izuku leaning against the fake bomb in triumph, Iida floating in the air and Bakugo tangled in capture tape.
I should have paid more attention. I would have loved to see Izuku beating Bakugo's ego into the pavement.
Todoroki put on an amazing display of power, freezing the entire building and getting the bomb with ease, before thawing the building out in an instant. His quirk was remarkably similar to mine, so maybe I could get some pointers from him.
The next two battles were relatively disinteresting to me, and I didn't really pay attention to them. All I knew was that Kaminari and Jiro won against their opponents.
Then, it was my turn.

Ikemoto begins to take more notice of Todoroki and his quirk. But of course, I can't let you have nice things so...
