Dawn
It was a cold day and I was bundled up as much as I could possibly be while still having the freedom of movement. Despite that though, I was shivering.
Henry walks quietly beside me, hands tucked in his coat pockets and the scarf his mom knit him wrapped around his neck.
"Are you alright?" He asks me, his thick accent startles me from my thoughts.
"Huh?"
"I asked if you're alright. I can hear you shivering."
"I'm just a little cold."
"A little bit?" He laughs. "Come here love."
I can feel my heart racing as he pulls me into his arms and I sigh when I feel the heat radiating from his body. "You're like a freaking space heater." I mumble and he laughs again.
"Feel better?" He asks.
All I can do is nod and close my eyes as my body warms up. "There's something about this that feels so natural." I say after a few minutes.
"What do you mean?" He questions.
"It just feels like we're meant to be... together? I don't know... Ugh, sorry, just forget I said anything." I groan internally.
I feel him laugh. "Dawn, are you trying to say that you like me?"
"Maybe." I say softly and tilt my head up to look at him. My heart flutters when he smiles.
"I like you too." He admits.
"You mean, like like me?"
"Mhm."
"Oh my god." I feel myself shiver, but it's not from the cold. "Since when?"
"Since we first met. I was kind of a "smitten kitten" as one would put it."
"Oh my god." I say again with a surprised laugh. "I've liked you since then too. I think it had something to do with the accent."
"Oh really?" He raises an eyebrow and smirks a little.
"Really." I breathe in a sigh of relief. "Henry, you have no idea how good it feels for that to be out in the open. I was terrified that if I were to tell you how I felt, then I'd ruin our friendship."
"You could never ruin it, love." He cups my face and before I can blink twice, he leans down and kisses me.
My stomach flip flops and I reach up and snake my arms around his neck, pulling him in closer as he deepens the kiss.
"Henry?" I say when we pull away to catch our breaths.
"Yes, darling?"
"Can we go somewhere warm please?" I chatter my teeth in a dramatic fashion to prove my point.
He laughs. "Yeah, we can go to the diner and get some hot chocolate."
I double fist pump and he walks away shaking his head, but I see an amused smile playing on his lips.
"Thank you."
"Anything for you, Dawn. But I still won't let you drive me bloody car." Then walks off down the sidewalk, leaving me in his wake.
I groan, outwardly this time, at the inside joke. "One of these days, Henry Cullen, you'll trust me enough to." I shout after him.
"Not today though!" He shouts back and I can't help but roll my eyes as I sprint after him.
