It was my birthday.

I was turning 17 today.

I always hated birthdays, it's not a big deal.

I mean why are we celebrating the fact that we grow older? It's so weird.

I didn't want to have a party, so I stayed home the whole day.

Anisa, Angi and some other friends visited me and gave me some presents, which I was really thankful for.

Some of those presents were candles, clothes, accessories, make-up etc.

One of my friends, Laura, got me a photo album with really sweet pictures of us. It was so cute.

My parents gave me some money and I had a chocolate cake. My fav!

I was ready to go to sleep, because I was pretty exhausted from the whole day when I suddenly heard my doorbell ring.

I opened the door to see an envelope and a book laying in front of my door.

I took it to my room and opened the envelope.
There was a note.

happy birthday, love

-Nate

I smiled and opened the book.

It was the book Emma by Jane Austen, but it was annotated.

By him??

I smiled even more.

I read the note on the first page:

This book reminded me of you and I think you should read it too.

I started to read a little bit of the book and his annotations were so interesting.

I decided to text him.

thank u for the book <3

Then I went to sleep.

Maybe birthdays aren't that bad.
