chapter 8

When office period came around I was worried about what Matt would say. Here's a recap of what happened after math.

He didn't show up to any other classes, but he has to show up to office because if you miss it without an excuse you get ISD (in school detention)

He comes in and puts on the office worker vest we wear so when people come to the office for help they know who to ask. He had lipstick on the side of his mouth, letting me know he's been kissing a skank.

I walk passed him and he just glares while I smirk. He's probably embarrassed since I ditched him.

*volleyball tryouts after school

I head to the gym. I'm kinda nervous because it is the last day of tryouts. I walk with mak to get changed and once we've put on our spandex and tshirts we run our laps and stretch. We scrimmage again today.

One girl is up to serve and it goes to Mak and she bumps, then the girl next to me sets it and I take this opportunity to perfectly spike it over the net. I hear the coach say something about varsity. They have never had a girl in 10th grade get to be on varsity. Whoever they are talking about is really lucky.

Tryouts are over and we come back at 8 to see final cuts. Mak's mom drives me home and I shower and do my homework. By the time I'm done its 7:00 so I walk down the street to a small diner and get supper, since mom and the twins aren't home.

I walk in and order a chicken club to go. I walk back home and eat. When I'm done Jackson takes me to check the list. I read the JV final cuts and my name isn't on there. I turn around with tears in my eyes trying to hurry to the car when a senior stops me and says, "hey you're Evelyn, right? Congrats on being on varsity no sophomore has ever done that!"

"Wait, what?" I reply as I turn around and sure enough my name is on the varsity list!!! I thank her for congratulating me and get in the car and tell Jackson. When we get home mom and the twins are home and I tell them the great news. I get in bed with a smile on my face.

I wake up to my alarm and get dressed. Today office workers go on a field trip to a nursing home to make a meal for them. Since office workers are supposed to represent the school we do service projects.

We have ride the bus and sit according to our class period which means I sit with Matthew or nerd. Before I make up my mind about who I sit with someone drags me into a seat. Looks like Matthew made my mind up for me. This will be a long ride.
