It had only been 3 days before Clayton's bunk change requests was fulfilled. One of the boys parents from the Cobra bunk had unenrolled him from the school so there was an opening in the bunk and it was all his if he wanted it.
Clayton had sat all the boys down on the day he filled out the request to let them know that he might be leaving their bunk. He wanted them to know that it wasn't because of them and they were actually all pretty decent roommates or whatever you would call this arrangement. Clayton simply explained to them that he was changing bunks for personal reasons.
He had no idea that all the other boys knew what "personal reason" he was talking about and would be discussing this matter with Jay as soon Clayton had officially left the bunk. Instead they all smiled, nodded and listened to what Clayton had to say.
They had no idea this was happening, Jay and Clayton had acted completely normal all the day after they had came back from the main office together. Clayton went through with his request and would be moving into the Cobra bunk in the morning. He spent the night packing all his things and saying goodbye to the other boys.
John seemed to be the most heart broken about the whole situation. Expressing to Clayton multiple times that things wouldn't be the same without him and how he was a "total upgrade" from the last guy. Clayton just laughed and nodded along knowing John wasn't gonna stop anytime soon. "I'll only get to see you in the morning on the track, at every meal and we have some classes together too but still that's not the point" John said in a very whiny voice "the point is yes I'm leaving this bunk but we're still going to see each other all the time, I'll eat with you guys at some meals to I promise"
"Really no one's ever done that" Jay said interrupting their conversation "done what eaten a meal with another bunk?" Clayton asked "yes, I mean we don't have to sit with our bunk mates but we all just kinda do it" Cam explained "so I can sit with you guys still?" Clayton asked trying to clarify "yes you can but it will be weird for everyone else" Justice said.
"Hey you'll be the first so that'll be cool" Jay said with a smile. Why did that suddenly make him very nervous? More nervous than meeting his new bunk mates in the morning.
The rest of the day was normal and seemed to go by pretty fast. The look on Jays face at their daily poker game said it all. He was still upset, he looked a little down, was kinda quiet and didn't seem like his usual upbeat self. "Hey man are you trying to lose ?" Cam asked snapping Jay out of his trance "huh no, sorry my heads just all over the place right now" he explained to the boys. "Go take a lap, clear your head" Justice said with a soft smile. Jay just nodded and headed to the door.
The boys continued to play. Jay walked while watching his watch so he wouldn't miss lights out. The track was empty and so was his mind. Have you ever had So many thoughts at once that your mind just feels empty? That how Jay was feeling. He just focused on his breathing and pace.
Soon it was almost time for lights out and he made his way back to the bunk. When he arrived everyone was already in bed, just sitting up talking to each other. Jay decided not to talk to anyone and just get ready for bed. Maybe Clayton leaving the bunk would give Jay some time to clear his mind too. While washing his face he mad a deal with himself to take this time to reflect and just take things one day at a time.
He went to be that night with a clear mind and plan. The next morning came and Jay didn't have a sick feeling in stomach like he did last night as he watched Clayton pack up his last few items. Since Clayton was leaving the bunk all the boy were allowed to miss the morning workout to say goodbye and help him move his things into his new "home".
All of the boys helped him carry his things to the new bunk and even helped him unpack a little. "Damn your new bed is the furthest from the bathroom. What if you have to pee really bad at night" John said simply observing the very unimportant detail. "Then I get up and run to the bathroom" Clayton said simply "nahh that seems like too much, you should just stay in our bunk so you can have unlimited access to the bathroom".
