22. The Funeral

Elena's POV
I was laying in Hayley's bed still dressed from the night before. My eyes hurt and I felt weak weaker than I've ever been. I heard a knock on the door before it opened. "Elena I know I'm the last person on earth you want to see right now but— "where's Elijah?" Klaus looked at the ground and sighed "we don't know he just ran out. The girls are currently searching for him with Marcel". I nodded and stood up falling and he caught me "I've got you" "put me down Klaus".

He let me go and I used the wall to help me leave the room. I found Freya doing magic "have you found him?" She sighed sadly "it's as if he's everywhere and nowhere at the same time. There's death all around him" "he shouldn't have jumped in front me" I ignored Klaus and kept talking to Freya.

"I'm currently looking for a spell to ease his pain but first we got to find him! This isn't your fault Elena" I nodded at her "I know it's just I helped raise the hollow, I asked Elijah to take the power from Klaus" Freya walked over to me and hugged me "you couldn't have known that you were sacrificing those kids to a power hungry witch, and you did what we all would've done. Saved the one you love".

I looked over at Klaus and gave him a small smile before turning my attention back to Freya. All of a sudden all the candles lit up and she stared at the map "he's in the quarter and the dark magic is all around him!" Klaus nodded and left leaving me alone with Freya.

"Elena are you ok? You don't look so good" I looked up at her "yeah I didn't get any sleep" she touched my forehead "you're burning up, you have bags under your eyes and you look like you're about to pass out any second" I turned away from her and as soon as I took a step I fell. She rushed to my side and helped me up "alright come one let's get you to bed".

Hope's POV
I walked into my room staring at our family pictures and smiled sadly. Maya and Edythe came in and I rushed over to them "how's Elena?" Maya sighed her eyes filling up with tears "we don't know what's wrong with her but she has a fever and she's extremely tired" I held my sister's hands and we all stood there staring at our family pictures wishing life could be happy again.

"Do you guys ever feel like we weren't meant to be? Like all the bad in our life is what we deserve?" "Yes" "yeah" I laughed choking on my cry. "What are we going to do about Uncle Elijah? If he dies it's gonna kill dad and... and what about Mom?" I looked over at Edythe and kissed her head "we're going to fix this I know it". They nodded slightly and we heard footsteps "let's go".

We walked into Aunt Freya's study to see her chanting "what's going on?" She was shaking and then Edythe walked over to her grabbing her hand saying the spell with her. Maya gave me a look and we joined in as well. When Aunt Freya opened her eyes she smiled at us "thanks girls" we nodded "what was it for?" Maya asked

"A spell to transfer some of the magic in Elijah to your father for a few hours. We called up Antoinette just so that we could give Elijah a few hours of peace" I nodded and then sighed "what about Aunt Elena?" Aunt Freya sighed "follow me".

We did as we were told and followed her into dad's room. Aunt Elena was laying on the bed looking fragile and sick "oh my god!" We walked over to her held onto her body. "Mom, mom can you hear us? Please!" Aunt Elena opened her eyes slowly and smiled when she saw us. "What are you girls doing here?" "We wanted to check up on you" I kissed her hand and sighed tears falling from my eyes.

"You have to tell us what's wrong Aunt Elena! I've already lost one mom and I can't lose another" I broke into tears and watched Edythe as she cried into her mother's arms. "I think I'm dying" the door opened and dad walked in.

"Elena my love I'm sorry I didn't come faster" he picked her up bridal style and we followed him out the room "Klaus what's these things on your arms? Are you dying too?" He ignored her and sat her down at the dinner table. "Dad what's going on?" Dad looked at Maya and smiled sadly "my brother is dying, my best friend and I can't help him. He looked over at Elena and sighed "I've made many mistakes in my life but one thing that I'll never regret is loving the four of you".
