With Bradly being so worked up with Maverick and Hangman being Hangman, I decided this morning to go for a run. I got changed into shorts and a matching work out top, put in my headphones and got onto the top deck. No one would be landing for at least two more hours so I had the strip to myself. The strip was the length of about two and a half football fields so I had the space I needed to clear my head. It was sun up and about 6:15 am when I started, breakfast at 8. About the fourth lap I decided to pause for some water and check my heart rate. I was over by the hanger where one of the planes was sitting for morning training when I heard a cough. My head snaps over and I see Bob sitting on the wing of the parked F/18.
"Jesus Bob, what are you doing up there?"
"Same thing you are."
"Running?"
"No. Clearing my head."
"Oh."
We stand in silence for a moment.
"Wanna come up?" He asks.
I look at him with a funny look, "No one will know, I promise," he says.
Something about him "promising" about something brought me a weird feeling of comfort. I climb the stairs to the cockpit, shuffling over the seat and out to the wing on the other side. I sat down beside Bob and he smiles.
"Hi!"
"Hi," I respond, "Nice view."
"I love doing this. I love just looking out over the ocean and taking in the fresh air, away from everyone, ya know?"
I liked this side of him, usually he is quiet and stands behind Phenix. But he seems so calm and comfortable out here. Like he can really be himself.
"I like the same just with some movement, the sound of my feet hitting the pavement and the smell of the tarmac."
We sit in silence for a moment.
"You're very pretty," Bob says swinging his feet below him.
"Thanks," I laugh tucking a loose hair behind my ear.
"You know I don't really hate it when you call me Bobby."
"Really," I laugh.
"I think it's kind of cute, my parents call me Robert, call sign Bob, you gave me a nickname."
"I always thought you hated it."
"I know you did."
"Well I am glad that you didn't hate it. I think it suits you well."
"Do you want to go out with me?" he pushes his glasses up his nose and shyly looks at me.
"Sure. I'd like that very much, Bob," I smile.
He tucks his lower lip into his upper and smiled shyly.
