"Apologies, Dream, but the laws of Hell demand that I become his champion."

Morpheus prepared for his fight. I was still against it, but I didn't want to oppose him. I put Matthew back on my shoulder and stood back. Before the fight started, Morpheus came up to us: "Matthew, I need you to return to The Dreaming." We both looked at him in astonishment. "What? No!" Matthew protested. "It's the only reason I allowed you to come." - "So I could leave you?" - "If I should not be able to leave this place, I would not have Lucienne left alone with no word of my fate." "And what about me?" I interjected. Morpheus looked at me: "Should I not be able to return with you, you will succeed me." I swallowed hard. "We came here for the helm and we're not leaving here without it." Matthew said and I nodded in agreement. Matthew and I stepped a bit to the side to give the fighters their place.

And so began 'the Oldest game' between Lucifer and Morpheus.

"I am a dire wolf. Prey-stalking, lethal prowler."

"I am a hunter. Horse-mounted, wolf-stabbing." This move wounded Lucifer, an arrow-like wound gaping across her chest.

"I am a serpent. Horse-biting, poison-toothed." Dying pains began to spread across Morpheus' face, the effect of a snake's venom.

"I am a bird of prey. Snake-devouring, talons ripping" Three scratches gaped across Lucifer's face.

"I am a butcher bacterium. Warm-life destroying." Morpheus collapsed, holes opening in his face. I wanted to run towards him but something stopped me.

"I am a world. Space-floating, life-nurturing." You could feel a little fresh breeze in the room and the smell of fresh grass.

"I am a nova. All-exploding, planet-cremating." His face started to burn and he cried out in pain. He was lying on the ground, powerless and without energy.

"I am a universe. All things encompassing, all life embracing." I had before me the picture of a beautiful universe in which I could feel all life.

"I am anti-life. The Beast of Judgment. The dark at the end of everything." A chill ran down my spine. Now I understood why God banished Lucifer from heaven.

Morpheus was on the ground and I snapped out of my rigid state and ran to him. "Morpheus, Morpheus, don't give up now," I said as I leaned down and gently cupped his head in my hands. "What will you be then, Dream Lord." Lucifer asked with a smile. I looked up at them with icy eyes. "I...I...I..." he tried to say but failed. I laid his head gently on my lap and stroked his hair, all I could do was calm him down. "Boss?" Matthew asked, just hopping up. "Hey boss?" he tried again. "Still with us Dream?" Lucifer asked as they leaned over him. "He is and it's his move, Your Majesty." I said with what little respect I had for her. "There are no more moves." They said monotonously.

"What can survive the anti-life?"
