After saying this, he just looked at me

After saying this, he just looked at me. I was too shocked to reply anything. I couldn't get a word out, he just took the opportunity to disappear. 'You complete idiot.', I yelled inwardly and went in search of a hotel, there was no way I would be returning to the dream realm.

~next day~

In my mind, I was sitting at breakfast. "May I join you?" someone suddenly asked me. I looked up and saw Death. I smiled, "Please be my guest." She sat across from me. "What's on your mind, little dream, I can see it in your eyes," she said as she grabbed an apple. I sighed, "Dream confessed his love to me last night but didn't give me time to respond. Now I feel like a piece of misery." Death smiled and put a hand on mine: "Give him some time and you too, his last lover betrayed him." She stood up: "We're both going to the park now. No arguments."

When we got to the park, I saw a group of small children playing there. In the 1980s I was often in parks and taking care of children, telling them stories. It was nice to see them play in the park. Suddenly a ball flew at me. I accepted it and started playing with the group. After a while I looked around to where Death had gone and saw her sitting on a bench with a man, that man was Morpheus. Our eyes met, but he quickly looked away.

3rd person POV:

Death and her little brother Dream talked, but she didn't miss the look he kept throwing at the dream. "Okey, so what's the matter?" she asked him. He kept looking at the pigeons in front of him: "What do you mean?" "I can tell something's wrong. I mean, look at you. Sittin' here, moping, pigeon-feeding. It's not like you," she stated. The younger one tried to explain to his sister what was wrong: "When they captured me, I just had one thought. Vengeance. It wasn't as satisfying as I#d expected. Meanwhile, my kingdom had fallen apart. My tools had long since been stolen and scattered and so I embarked upon a journey to find them. Which I did. I'm now more powerful than I have been in eons. and yet..."

Death listened to her brother and leaned forward: "Here you are, feeding the pigeons." "You see, until then, I'd had a true quest. A purpose beyond my function and then suddenly, it was over, and I felt disappointed. Let down. Empty. Does that make sense? I was so sure that once I got everything back, I'd feel good but in some ways, I feel worse than when I started. I feel like... Nothing. There, you asked.", he continued to tell her while his gaze was still on the soccer-playing dream. Death gently laid a hand on Morpheus' leg: "You could have called me, you know." Morpheus looked at his sister with his head ducked: "I didn't want to worry you." Death rolled his eyes and took the bread from him: "Oh, I don't believe it. Let me tell you something, Dream. And I'm only gonna say this once, so you better pay attention. You are utterly the stupidest, most self-centred, pathetic excuse for an anthropomorphic personification on this or any other plane. Feeling sorry for yourself because your little game is over and you haven't got the balls to go out and find a new one. You're as bad as Desire. No worse. Also, I can't believe you confessed your love to Rune last night and then just took off. She's the best thing that could ever happen to you. So you fix this as soon as possible or I'll personally kick your ass." After her speech, Death threw the bread back to Morpheus. "Did it never occur to you that I would be worried about you?" she asked him. "I didn't think you-" "Exactly. You didn't think."

Rune POV:

I nudged the ball so hard it headed straight for Death. "Heads up!" Franklin shouted, but Death caught the ball just like Morpheus did. Franklin and I ran to them both. "I'm out Frank, but thanks for the game," I said as he left. He smiled at me and left. "Look, I can't stay here all day. I've got work to do. You two can come with me or I'll just leave with Rune and you can stay here and sulk.", she said. I had to laugh. He looked up:

"I'll come with you, I suppose."
