Matthew and I still tried to wake him up but he didn't even move. I decided to put him on his back to check his pulse (I have no idea if he has a pulse or a heart). Luckily there was a pulse. Matthew sighed: "We gotta get you out of here. Gotta get your ruby back. But we can't do that unless you wake the fuck up! Wake up!" We kept trying taps and shakes, but nothing. A funny feeling settled over me, like someone or something was turning the thoughts and consciousness of a handful of people for the worse. The Ruby, it possessed such power and in the wrong hands, it could cause great damage.

I started holding my head, pain rippling through my head. People killed each other, I last had such pain during the second world war. It just kept getting worse, hurting themselves under the Ruby's control. Meanwhile, I lay on the floor, holding my head and crying in pain, the image of the dead before my eyes. As a dream, I was somehow connected to all people because I accompany them in their dreams from an early age. After a while, the pain subsided.

Morpheus suddenly opened his eyes. "Hey, hey, are you alright?" I asked, realizing it. "We have to go to a diner, right now," he said, standing up. He brought us there with his sand.

The diner was dark from the outside and when we entered it took my breath away. The ground was littered with blood and corpses, the air reeked of death. A man stood in front of us. "Hello, I'm John. I'm glad you're here. The power has gone out. So there's no TV, and no one left to talk to.", he greeted us. "What is it you think you're doing?" Morpheus asked him. While the two talked, I let my eyes fall over the diner and the bodies. "Oh, you're The Sandman and you're one of his dreams. My mother was right. She said you'd be coming for it," he stated. I now separated from the two and went into the kitchen, there lay a man with a beard. I could still see into his mind, he wasn't a pervert anymore, the only death I found justified.

I went ahead again, but Morpheus and John were gone. 'He didn't seriously leave me alone with a mountain of corpses.' I thought and went out.

Suddenly I was in the broken throne room. "Is this your palace...Dream lord? Is this your throne...King of Lies?" someone asked in front of me. I clicked my tongue, "Watch your tongue man. As a child, you came here every night, played in his meadows, laughed daydreamed with us. So I wouldn't call him the king of lies."

"Well, it's mine now." He suddenly yelled, ignoring me. Everything stone burned, everything dissolved. "Are you watching? Can you see me?" he asked, "Using your own powers to burn away your lies?" "You must stop," Morpheus' voice said, filtered through his helmet and appearing in front of us. I immediately ran to him. "It's not too late to save yourself.", he tried to convince John. Morpheus explained to him what happened when the Magus stole his relics. What John then replied confirmed that he should have stayed in the asylum.

"It's no blessing for you, John, it's a curse," I said. He lifted the stone and tried to destroy Morpheus with it: "Your reign ended when my father captured you. Your kingdom is my birthright. Your power resides within me. How does it feel to know I hold your life in my hands?" I couldn't do anything but watch, because as he began to 'destroy' Morpheus, I grew weaker and weaker as well. Suddenly the stone shattered, everything turned white and I lost consciousness.

"Rune." I heard a voice call out to me. I was able to open my eyes again and looked into Matthew's eyes. "Finally, I thought you were dead," he said as I sat up. I smiled and gently stroked his head. "Rune," said Morpheus' firm voice. "My Lord Morpheus," I said softly, my head bowed. Morpheus took us back to town. "Matthew, would you mind leaving us alone for a few minutes?" Morpheus asked him. Matthew shook his head, "Of course, not Boss." With these words, he flew away. "What do you want to talk to me about?" I asked him curiously. He turned to me, "When the ruby bounced me back and I passed out, I could still hear everything Matthew and you said." My heart sank to the ground: "You...you heard what I said?" Mentally I gave myself a juicy slap in the face.

He stopped: When I was with Nada at the time, you distanced yourself from everything and everyone. Were you jealous?" I looked at the floor and nodded. He laughed lightly: "I hadn't had a lover in almost 10,000 years because I realized that I fell in love with someone from my realm, but I always feel that the one who sees me only as their maker and a friend." I looked at him confused.

"That person is you."
