She watched her son struggle daily, watching him walk around Riverrun in a repeating sort of pace, circling the halls so many times over. At meetings and war councils she could see him almost falling asleep. She saw him struggling, the mother in her was in so much pain and grief because of the fact she could do nothing to help him.

This meeting was no different.

"Thank you for riding here so quickly. I know travel isn't easy in these times."

Robb's voice sounded half-hearted, his eyes half-lidded as the Freys sitting across from thek only nodded with a greed-filled sort of look behind their eyes.

"The roads are crawling with cutthroats and bandits. But when the King of the North summons us, we come."

They weren't always so, Catelyn reminisced for just a moment. They used to be safe in both the North and the Riverlands. But with war..nobody is ever safe.

"Our father has instructed us to tell you that his alliance with the North can continue if his terms are met. Lord Frey requires a formal apology for your violation of your sacred oath to marry one of his daughters."

She watched Robb nod half-heartedly yet once more, his eyes seeming so far away that he might as well be in Volantis.

"Of course. He deserves as much. I was in the wrong."

"As restitution for this betrayal..he demands Harrenhal and all its attendant lands."

Black Walder said, and Catelyn nearly scoffed as she glanced at her uncle Brynden, who seemingly almost did the same. It was too much. Harrenahl and all of its attendant lands would be too much to give to 'The Late Walder Frey'. Too much power to give such a terrible man, a terrible person.

"I don't think that's--"

Her brother started to voice, but her son cut him off with the shake of his head, his brown curls flowing a bit as the circlet of iron swords rests atop his head.

"I am both the King in the North and the Riverlands. The men of the Riverlands are also my bannermen. And any liege lord should be respectful and generous to his bannermen."

But at what cost? She wanted to ask Robb. Her mind flashed to the boy she deemed bastard, the boy of Dayne. He said that a king that is too generous is a king that pays for the knives to be placed in his enemies hands.
