"SHADOWS OVERHEAD"
301 AFTER CONQUEST
꧁ THEON ꧂
I'm going home, he thought to himself. He dared only to think such a thing because he knew, deep down he knew and understood that he could not get to him at sea. Regardless of that knowledge, of that fact that Jaime Lannister seemed to always repeat to him whenever he quivered and shook in fright from something real or imagined, Theon Greyjoy imagined tentacles reach from the sea to drag him back to snowy shores back to him.
"It's a nice morning today, Greyjoy."
Jaime Lannister had honestly come as a surprise to Theon. Why would he be here of all places in Westeros he could've been, he was on a ship full of Ironborn and himself heading back to Pyke, to meet Balon and Asha, the last of his family. He was the same man who was one of the first through the Breech during the Siege of Pyke, that seem breech that killed his last brother, though Theon could only faintly remember it. Why was he here?
Why am I here?
"Wouldn't you say?"
Theon blinked twice as Ser Jaime stood beside him now, leaning on the railing as he felt lost. Swallowing thickly, he nodded, and turned back and stared down at the ocean as the sea water crashed and splashed every time the ship rises and falls.
"Y-Yes.."
Ser Jaime, though Theon stayed staring at the water, frowned, and Theon felt that frown.
"You think if I were to kill you, I would have waited until now to do it?"
He shook his head.
"I am surprised how much the Lady Sansa had changed with you when we had saved you both. She hated you and then didn't want you to go. The man who killed her brothers."
Jaime shook his head as Theon shook his own too.
"I-I didn't..didn't kill those boys."
"I know. You've said as much. Still..you did take Winterfell, yes?"
"Yes.."
"I used to imagine that."
The knight admitted, and for a moment, Theon saw the man he had seen before arriving in Winterfell with his fancy golden armor, the proud Kingsguard knight, the prodigal son of Tywin Lannister. I used to be like that, Theon thought. But seeing how far the other man had come, in that moment, Theon knew, for better or worse, the Theon Greyjoy that used to be was meant to be gone.
"But..admittedly, the Starks have their merits. They have a way of coming back."
"Sansa.."
Theon muttered as Jaime nodded.
"Right. That girl..I've only seen fire in eyes like hers only a few times. With that alone, I don't think the Bastard stands a chance."
