Daniel Leonard Nigro was born on May 14, 1982 into a middle class family in Long Island, New York. He started going by Dan in second grade when his so-called nemesis (Daniel B.) beat him in a highly competitive game of rock, paper, scissors. The battle for the name was honorably lost, and "Dan" just kind of stuck.
Dan's time in the '80s, he claims, was the best of his life. From newborn to about 8 or 9, Dan spent every car ride with his dad's tapes playing in the background, whom he credits the origin of his music taste to.
His mom didn't have as much of an affinity for music. She made that pretty clear when she tried to bar his father from purchasing Dan that drum set... and that guitar... and that piano.
His favorite band at the time had been Bjork... a name that he had mispronounced for most of his childhood as his dad had decided against correcting him (he found it hilarious). When Dan figured out the band wasn't called Bee Jork, he was absolutely devastated.
Don't worry, his dad made it up to him with a Radiohead vinyl.
Dan was 17 when he first got his hands on a MacBook, and he fell in love with that shit, let me tell you. Having direct access to every musical genre had teenage Dan twirling his hair and kicking his feet. And so, for every year after that he kept a piggy bank full of lawn-mowing money for whatever Apple had to offer next... well, that and coverage for whatever portion of his dad's hospital bills that his mom wasn't able to pay.
A couple years later, Dan was onto bigger and better things, founding his first band with some school buddies. His dad was over the moon about it, even going so far as knocking on every door in the neighborhood to flex that his son was in a band.
Unfortunately, his mom wasn't fond of the idea, but she saw how happy it made her two favorite boys. So most of her opinions were kept to herself.
By the next year, his band had landed a record deal at the release of their EP.
And it was by the end of that same year that Dan attended his father's funeral.
He suffered two losses in such a short period of time. One being his father and the second being his mother's support.
Numerous years, and three albums later, his band split up. He was stuck in an odd limbo before he decided to crack open another MacBook. The year was 2010, and they were starting to call those things 'pro!' Can't get much better than that.
Dan decided he spent enough time onstage, and found himself in favor of the 'behind the scenes' portion of writing and producing music. He was capable of more than he ever imagined this way, and so, for the next decade or so, he maintained a steady life. He worked frequently with famous, and upcoming stars, and profited off of chart-toppers that had his name in the fine print of every sold copy. With that, he was able to purchase a decent studio in LA to practice at, only using it for when he worked with really famous people or people he just wasn't familiar with.
It had been that studio that Minnie and Olivia had stumbled through the door of, sweeping Dan up into a storm he wasn't even aware he signed up for. After that, they simply met in his garage... which was his preferred production place. He even called it 'Triple P' in front of the two girls... neither of them laughed.
They made it up to him with a friendship he admits to predicting upon their arrival, as he took a liking to the pair almost immediately. This was thanks to the way they actually listened to what he wanted, and expressed a multitude of times that their creations should be just as much his as they were theirs.
