"I-I don't think that's a very good idea," Shawn stammered as he stumbled after Minnie, already a mere foot away from her phone on the bar. He would never admit it, but he saw what a mere mention of Olivia could do to Minnie. He saw the immediate impact on her features at the sound of the girl's name. He always suspected there was something that Minnie wasn't telling him about her time spent with her, he just doesn't know what.
Something about her always lingered in Minnie, and not surprisingly so, it bothered Shawn. He detected the amount of attention Minnie would allow herself to keep on Olivia, and he couldn't help but wish that for himself. Shawn would do anything for Minnie to pay the mind she does to her former friend, and letting Olivia in would only mean she'd take back and leave him alone all over again.
"Why?" She tilted her head, phone in hand as Shawn tripped on every obstacle in his way.
"I just-" he panted, hands on his knees as he took a breather. "Don't want you to be disappointed when she doesn't answer."
"You don't think she'll answer me?" Minnie worried aloud.
"Well-"
"I mean I did leave out of nowhere; I guess it would be shitty of me to call now... Fuck, you're right. Fuck fuck fuck." Minnie began to pace as Shawn followed, goal on retrieving the phone from her hand.
"Minnie-"
"What would I even say? Oh, great job on the song that you probably meant for me! Also, sorry about the whole ditching you thing because I'm a fucking wuss-"
"Minnie!" Shawn shouted, finally gaining the girl's attention.
"I..." he carefully pulled the phone from her grasp "...will take this, okay?"
"You're right. You're right." She shook her head, sitting back on the couch.
"Hey," Shawn noted the shift in her mood as he took up the spot next to her. "Why did you... Why did you call yourself a wuss?"
"'Cause I left." Minnie answered bluntly.
"I know that but.. you didn't really say much when you came over that night."
"There wasn't much to say," Minnie lied, thinking back to every time she avoided telling Olivia the truth. She continues to prove her weakness to herself. How pathetic.
Shawn would usually push for more, but once in every blue moon he was able to correctly register social cues and keep his mouth shut. This is one of those times.
} A week later...
The media attention that Minnie was supposed to get from 'good 4 u' was thankfully swept up by the fact that Josh landed himself in the hospital on the fateful night of the song's release. Not good news for him, but it calmed down the swarm that usually surrounded Minnie pertaining to her rumored relationship with Olivia.
Tonight, however, Minnie had bigger fish to fry. Indeed, your math is right, and the date was no other than May 20, 2021. In no longer than 3 hours, Olivia Rodrigo's first studio album SOUR would be out on all streaming platforms. It'll be heard by millions including the people that it was so passionately written about.
Minnie could not believe the anxiety that surrounded this fateful day. Releases seemed to coming left and right, and as overdramatic she insists she sounds, it had been a lot for her to here. This was especially true for the times she forced herself to take every lyric as punishment, as a means that she brought every ounce of pain upon herself. Just like she did when she was young, and just like she did when she drove off from the same house in which she would receive a countless amount of those exact punishments.
