☁️: alright y'all, so this timeline only makes sense at the expense of Shawn's discography. this means that his album releases are NOT accurate compared to real life nor is his age... like actually i really screwed him over timeline-wise but it's okay because that's the only way this book is gonna work.
so in this book, he is not 23 because uhhh let's just say that would make him look VERY creepy. in this book, he is 20 in 2021 thankyouverymuch. also, minnie is 19 by this point, just an fyi.

Shawn hadn't expected to see Minnie, of all people, on his doorstep at two in the morning. It had been so long since he'd seen her last and it bewildered him to see how much she's grown. Sure, he'd seen her on social media recently, as her popularity had been growing. But nothing could've prepared him for the real thing.
They had met at Six Flags in the fall of 2016. 16-year-old Shawn had been there as a guest performer. He had just found popularity on Vine, and had been debating writing his first album at the time. He ran into 15-year-old Minnie, who happened to be a fan. She had been cowering in the corner of the park, trying to avoid the immense fear she had of roller coasters. Olivia was away fetching snacks for the both of them when Shawn approached the girl. His presence gave Minnie something to freak out about other than the fact that Olivia almost made her get on a roller coaster. Luckily, she managed to impress the boy with her ability to outwardly keep calm, as well as her good humor, and the two quickly became friends. After his park performance, he had spent the rest of the day with Minnie and Olivia. After exchanging numbers and sadly departing, Shawn and Minnie had kept in contact, talking regularly and exchanging little pieces of their lives with each other. With that, they grew closer until they didn't.
Their regular facetimes dwindled to a text every once in a while; to nothing at all. Their social media interactions went from constant jokes in each other's comments to a rare like. There was no spite in the drifting of their friendship. It was purely the inevitable outcome of the business of their lives taking away the time they had to make long distance friendships. And that was that, the end. 2016 - 2018.
At least, it was the end for Minnie. She had other priorities, such as Olivia. For Shawn, he's been thriving in the music industry, this much is known. Minnie, however, to this day, is unaware of the fact that she was the inspiration behind a few songs on Shawn's first album.
Shawn had plucked the short straw in life and developed a crush on the girl that he knew he could never have due to distance and nonexistent time. But trust me, it was just a silly crush.
I say this because soon after the release of his first album, he found himself associated with Fifth Harmony, and therefore Camila Cabello. The two clicked from the very beginning and became friends with ease.
The catch was that Shawn was in love with Camila. And those feelings? Not reciprocated.
Common thread? Maybe.
So, here he was, casually wallowing away in self pity in the safety of his Los Angeles apartment, scribbling the lyrics to the song Camila had turned down the feature to; when there was a knock at the door.
Which brings us to where we were:
"My help? With what?" Despite his confusion, Shawn ushers the girl to sit on his couch.
"Covering it up." Minnie answered as if it was obvious.
Minnie, to put it plainly, was over it. She spent the entire night before cleaning her belongings out of the home she held so close to her heart. She couldn't go back... couldn't face inevitable shame she would feel at the sight of Olivia. Minnie wonders if Olivia thinks about her... her weakness, how pathetic she is. She could feel the humiliation after leaving Cornelius Street before Olivia could know she was gone and spent the rest of the following day figuring out where Shawn lived, as she had grown desperate in a time of need. What better time to get back in touch with an old friend?
