To clarify, Minnie and Shawn had been holed up in this hotel room since press tour started for Señorita. So naturally, Minnie would wake up next to the boy every morning.
The difference with this morning, of course, was the absence of the curly head of hair that she had gotten used to seeing on the pillow to the left of her.
Curious, Minnie sat up, observing her surroundings for any note or trace of the man she had grown fond of over the last few weeks.
She shuffled out of bed and made her way to the shared bathroom, completing her morning routine as she pondered on where the boy could be. They usually brush their teeth together.
After deciding she looked decent enough to continue the day, she traveled to the kitchen. The burning smell of toast traveled up Minnie's nostrils as she winced at the feeling. She lifted her hand to defend what was left of her nose hairs.
Alas, there in the kitchen, seemingly focused on his phone far more than the overcooked toast, was Shawn.
"Hey, what the fuck?" Minnie stood confused, her eyes squinted and her fingers pinched at her nose.
Shawn's head snapped up from his phone, an apologetic look on his face.
"You didn't see, did you?" he nervously rubbed his hands together.
"Uhhhh, no," Minnie answered carefully, slightly terrified of whatever he could be referring to.
"Olivia's new song..."
"What?!" She didn't mean to raise her voice. It was simply the result of the overwhelming thought of the girl she used to see everyday releasing a song and she wasn't one of the first people to know. That's her revenge, she guessed. For getting cold feet, for ghosting Olivia, wiping herself of the girl's life entirely. She wasn't an insider anymore, she was a watcher now... just like everyone else.
"Yeah... it's- You should hear it," Shawn rubbed the back of his neck as he handed the girl his phone.
Minnie took the phone, still nervous but attempting to reassure the rising fluttering in her stomach.
She walked over to sit at the couch, Shawn opting to sit next to her but... far away. You know, just in case.
At the first glance at the title and thumbnail, she wanted to scream.
Deja vu. Of fucking course.
"Oh shit. I helped her write some of this," Minnie spoke aloud.
"Uhhhh, yeah I don't think you helped her write the rest of it," he spoke cautiously but truthfully.
That was enough for the fluttering in her stomach to grow worse. She gulped as she clicked on the video.
The video opened with the beautiful scenery of the Malibu road.
Shit.
The same road the girls would travel down to their favorite ice cream shop.
The lyrics rolled in as Minnie's jaw dropped. There was a direct reference to their relationship in this song and she couldn't be any more repulsed to be hearing it.
Then came the lyrics Minnie had suggested, which for some reason, made it all the more painful to hear. Tears welled up in her eyes as the memories began flashing behind her eyes at the mention of reruns and harmonizing.
She felt Shawn place his hand on the small of her back as she continued to listen. The chorus came along, just like they planned. It shook her to the core to know that she had been in that room when Olivia recorded those harmonies. Not only that but... Minnie had been apart of the producing process. She could almost hear Dan arguing for the vocal chops over the synth. Minnie and Olivia had won the majority... and it sounded so damn good.
