When Harvey studied, his teacher once told them all that even thou they were becoming doctors, they couldn't save the whole world. Sometimes it was fine enough to just try - there was no help for some people anymore.
However, there was help for Shane and when the help was getting his keys and unlocking the door to his apartment and leading Shane upstairs, then he was glad to offer it.
When they reached the top of the stairs, Shane suddenly appeared to be a little hesitant what made Harvey turn around and rising his eyebrows.
"Uhm." Shane coughed. "When I asked to stay at your's... I meant like, down in the clinic. In the patient room."
"Oh, ehm..."
Since he was standing on a higher step, Harvey had to look down on Shane. He was anyways taller, he really wasn't a tall guy, but he had heard people talk worse about the way he looked. Actually, his hairstyle was kinda cool. Did he do his hair in the morning?
"It's not heated at nighttime."
"Heh?" Thou Shane still looked incredible depressed, his eyes seemed even a little redish, he seemed confused.
"Well, at...", Harvey felt the hot embarrassment rising up in his stomach. "At nighttime, I turn the heaters out to save energy." His eyes went to the ground and he bit his own lip. "I... can't afford heating it all night... don't tell Maru, yeah?"
"Won't. Promise." Shane looked away, apparently he didn't want to be seen in the state he was currently in. Understandable - Harvey wasn't pastoral, but he totally got when people didn't want to be seen in a state of weakness, like Shane was in. His rough appearance was some kind of defence mechanism, that was what he had once read on a cryptic note he found under a stone. It must've been hard to let this guard down now.
"Err, Harvey?"
While the doctor was unlocking  the door to his apartment, Shane cleared his throat. As the eyes of Harvey met him, he quickly glared away.
"Thanks for lettin me stay."
"...well, only for a day thou." Admonishing, Harvey rose a finger. "But don't worry. I'm a doctor and I have sworn to help all people."
"Uhm, yeah. Whatever." Shane chewed on hisnlower lip. "Can we get in now? I'm thirsty."
"I don't have alcohol available."
"Dammit." It was hard to say if this was a defense again or some kind of weird joke. Shane wouldn't drink directly after such an event that was negative about alcohol.
He wouldn't, right?

Harvey led the other man into the apartment. It was a small one, but since he lived alone and spent the main day in the clinic below, it was perfect for him.
Awkwardly Shane stepped in and looked around. Without really wanting it, Harvey followed his glare. There were his miniature planes he used to collect, his radio equipment - nothing that Shane was supposed to see, but it was nothing to be ashamed of - his kitchen, the small table, the door to the bathroom... he had no living room, only a small armchair in front of his television between bookshelves next to his radio.
"Uhm...?", he heard Shane growling from the side and he was about to question what was his problem, but within one second  he realised it himself: Harvey owned no sofa, no lounger, there was barely space on the ground - and there was only one bed.
