Cow Matt grazed in the summer heat. His tail swatting any fly that got too close.

He mooed as he slowly walked across the field of grass. He would step in poop that either he or some other cow had made.

He reeked like any other cow.

"Hey Tom, what are you writing?", asked Tord as he sat next to Tom.

Tom didn't look up from his notebook and just grinned. He was focused on his story. Once he finished, he closed the notebook and noticed Tord was looking at him. His grinned dimmed.

Tom coughed and put his hand over the notebook, "Uh... just a silly story.", he said.

"Oh, cool...", Tord trailed off.

It was awkward for a moment before Tord talked again.

"Can... I see it when it's finished?", asked Tord.

"Wow, you're English has really improved in just a month! You are such a fast learner.", said Tom as a distraction.

"....Yeah, you're a good teacher.", Tord dropped his hand from the table to tighten it into a fist underneath.

Tom and Tord looked a way from each other. Tom bit his lip in indecision. Tord glanced at that action and his hands itched to write what he saw, so he forced both hands to hold his knees.

"I guess... I could let you see a little bit....", said Tom.

"After all, it's just random nonsense...", thought Tom as he slid the notebook to Tord.

Tord smiled at Tom and calmly opened the notebook to read the story Tom wrote. His curiosity was rewarded with something fascinating. He committed the contents to memory to make notes about later in his room.

"Wow Tom! I love the little pictures.", praised Tord.

He watched Tom get bashful and scratch his cheek in embarrassment. Tord almost beamed at the positive reaction.

"Thanks, I'm not much of a writer and Edd is definitely the best drawer I know.... But I'm kind of proud of myself.", admitted Tom.

Tord handed the notebook back as Tom looked him in the eyes and smiled. Tord let out an easy chuckle and stood up.

"I haven't seen Edd's art yet, but I'll hold you to that. See you around Tom.", said Tord.

Tom watched Tord walk up the stairs before looking back at his notebook. He placed his hand on top of where Tord had his.

"Maybe he's not so bad after all....", Tom muttered to himself.

————
Tord reached his room and closed the door behind him. The calm façade he put up shattered as he clutched the front of his hoodie where his heart would be.

He collapsed into the door as his breath got heavy.

"I must... ha ha... analyze.... I... haaa.....", Tord ripped himself from his door to get his own notebook in his lab.

He opened the passageway and practically bounced with anticipation. When the notebook was in his hands, he wrote everything he could remember.

He drew visuals and notes about Tom's thought process. He wanted nothing more to get Tom to open up to him.

It would be easier to ask questions about him that way.

He was so close.

———-

"The idiot has finally left.", thought Tom as he heard Tord walk a way after hearing him mutter.

Tom purposefully spoke loud enough for a spying Tord to hear him. Tom took out a second notebook from his hoodie pocket and wrote down his observations.

Putting both notebooks a way, Tom walked into the Living room to watch TV with Edd.

"Hey Tom.", said Edd as he sat on the couch.

"Hey.", Tom responded as he made himself comfortable.

A few minutes after he settled, Ringo got off Edd's lap to sit in Tom's hair. Edd frowned with jealousy and reluctantly got up to go to the bathroom like he wanted to hours ago.

Tom smirked as he took a cat treat out of his pocket. He gave Ringo the treat and ignored the crumbs.
———
Matt slammed the door open hours later. He had tears in his eyes.

"Where were you guys? I waited in the park for hours!", exclaimed Matt.

"So? You're the one that wanted to be a baseball player. You join a team, we don't want too.", said Edd.

Matt slapped the cola out of Edd's hand and began to fight Edd. Obviously, Edd pummeled Matt until he got a bat that was just laying around the stairs.

Tom slept peacefully on the couch with Ringo still in his hair.
