Eddie couldn't believe it. The plan he had concocted with Steve, Nancy, and Robin, had actually worked. He'd just gotten off the phone with his new boss in Columbus.

Weeks ago, with Steve's encouragement, Eddie had started to look for jobs in the city. Nancy had helped him with his resume and it had been Robin's idea to put together a demo reel of his bands' music. He'd recorded and produced a lot of it himself over the years and Robin thought it was worth a try to apply with music production companies. Steve had come up with a list of addresses and Eddie and Robin had taken a road trip to the city and dropped off his resume and demo tape all over Columbus. A week ago he'd done an interview over the phone and today he'd just been hired.

Eddie stood in his living room staring at the phone he'd just put down. He had a job... as an assistant to a music producer... in Columbus. "Yes!" he yelled and jumped up and down, punching his fists in the air. Now, all he had to do was tell Chrissy.

They hadn't talked about their plans for the fall since the last time Eddie had brought it up and Chrissy had told him she was going to college in Columbus before shutting the conversation down entirely. More and more Eddie wondered why she didn't want to talk about it. He knew it had a lot to do with her life at home, or at least that that was why she was so desperate to leave in the first place, but he still found it strange that she hadn't asked him what his plans were yet. Eddie hadn't wanted to bring it up again until he had some news, and, now that he had news, he realized he was nervous to tell her about it.

"You got the job!" Robin threw her arms around Eddie and hugged him warmly.

"Congrats, man," Steve slapped him on the back. "When are you going to tell her?"

Wow, straight down to business, Eddie thought. "Tomorrow," he said, nervously.

"Don't worry, she's going to be so excited," Robin patted his arm. "I'm so excited! All my friends are finally growing up."

Steve snorted. "Right, because you're such a put-together adult."

"I'm just saying, it's nice to see you boys figuring things out. What's wrong with that?" Robin grinned innocently.

The three of them discussed Eddie's next task which was finding a place to live. When they'd looked for companies for him to apply with they'd also looked at room-for-rent ads and it had seemed like there were a lot available in the college area. Ohio State wasn't too far away from Eddie's new job, and he wanted to be close to Chrissy, if that's what Chrissy wanted.

That was the million-dollar question. What did Chrissy want? Not long into Eddie's shift, she came in for a quick visit on her way home after camp like she did every Friday evening. Eddie was even more nervous than usual to see her. When she walked in, as beautiful and happy to see him as ever, all he could think was what if this was it? What if, when he told her tomorrow, she broke up with him? They sat together out back in the parking lot like usual and Eddie did his best to act normal, but he couldn't stop imagining himself broken-hearted this time tomorrow. When Chrissy left, a curious frown on her face no doubt due to how strange he'd been acting, Eddie watched her go wistfully and then turned back to his friends.

"I'm doomed," Eddie moaned, slouching back to the counter.

"What are you talking about?" Robin asked.

"What was I thinking? Getting a job in Columbus. She's going to want her freedom when she goes to college. She'll want to be free to be swept off her feet by some rich, handsome jock. She won't want her loser boyfriend from Hawkins skulking around."
