Assaj woke up with an aching arm. Realizing what had just happened before she fainted, the apprentice jumped up, scanning her surroundings for any threats. She then looked at what was left of her limb, now replaced with prosthetics. What she saw was an ugly three-fingered arm that was ripped right out of a droid. The metal was rusted and old and the hinges creaked at the slightest movement. Not even the lowest of peasants would be given something as terrible as this.
Just as she was about to rip it out, Assaj felt the presence of someone watching her from the shadows. 'Hello apprentice. It's good to see your safe'.
'You'. A wave of hate washed over her as she remembered how she was left behind by the man she used to call master. Assaj ran to the Count, throwing her fists at him. Count Dooku dodged each of them with ease before sweeping the woman off her feet. She tried to stand back up but Count Dooku pressed his boot on the woman's chest.
'Impulsive as always', the Count's pompous voice echoed in the dark room. 'If it was up to me, you'd already be dead'.
Assaj laughed. 'But it's not, is it? The man you thought would give you power chose me instead'.
'Don't presume to know too much, apprentice. It'll only make you look like a fool'.
Assaj pushed the man's boot away. She stood up, her hate now replaced with glee. 'You're no longer my master, Count. That honor now belongs to Darth Occlus. And unlike you, he is capable of giving me true power'.
Count Dooku managed to keep his stoic expression but Assaj knew that deep inside, the man was exhuming an incredible amount of indignation. 'You are a weak pathetic little creature. The Darth will see what you truly are. And when he does, he'll cast you aside for someone much more worthy'.
She wanted to tell her a good quip but none came to mind. She'll show him, she promised to herself. She'll show them all.
The Count then left the room, leaving the young woman to contemplate on her own.
It took hours before Assaj finally found her master's room. Asking those stupid droids for directions were no help at all. When she finally entered the room, Darth Occlus stared at her, looking intently at the prosthetic on her right arm. The apprentice grew self-conscious of her ragged state. 'What?', she snarled, trying to hide away her defect.
'You look horrible'.
Assaj wanted to get mad at him but realized that there was no mockery or contempt in the man's voice. Instead, she decided to go for sarcasm. 'Oh. And here I was thinking it was all a bad hair day'.
'Come, sit'. Darth Occlus took out a seat, presenting it to her. 'And take that thing out of your arm'.
The apprentice watched curiously as her master ripped out the walls of the room, revealing the circuitry hidden within. With the help of the force, he then ripped the ships wirings, throwing the mess at her feet. 'That should be enough', he said mainly to himself.
The Sith Lord then sat on the ground and began floating the pieces of metal right in front of Assaj. The wires snaked around one another, connecting the various pieces one by one. That was when Assaj realized what the Sith Lord was making. The hinges connected and a long metal wire rolled itself in a cylinder in between two metal shafts . Metal sheets covered part of the mechanics, leaving a few spaces to allow for movement. When it was all complete, Darth Occlus picked up the prosthetic and took it to the woman.
Assaj screamed as the new prosthetic was connected to her body, the mechanism connecting itself to the nerves in her arm. She barely managed to hold on to her consciousness as the thing began adjusting itself. When all of it was over, Assaj looked at the new prosthetic, slowly feeling the mechanism inside. There were no gears or electronics that she could find. The joints were pulled by wires, acting as tendons for her new arm. The wires themselves connected straight to her body, the slightest twitch making the wires tug on each other. She bent her new forearm, turn her new hand and twisted her new fingers, watching in awe as they moved exactly they way she wanted them to.
