"I'm late, I'm late, I'm late,"I muttered to myself, "Stupid." I thought. On my first day at a new school. My mom and dad assured me integrating at a new school would be easy for me. I'm not saying they we're wrong, but sometimes a girl just needed roots.

I was comfortable living in my old house with my familiar neighbourhood and school. But tragically (and très cliché may I add) my dad got a promotion in Toronto. And unfortunately for me and my mom, that meant packing up and leaving home.

---------------------------------------------

I threw on my leggings, Docs, and a band tee hoping it'd look not too put together but as if I had a natural sense of fashion. But I'd be hard pressed to tell you how many hours I spent on Instagram and Twitter ogling at some outfits.

I hope this wouldn't attract too much attention but give off the impression that I was friendly. Clothes make an impression and to me first impressions were everything. That was why I couldn't be late.

"Bye mom! Bye dad!" I barely got out as I rushed through the door out into unchartered territory.

---------------------------------------------

I trudged through DeVere Highschool feeling like an alien. It was definitely weird. All girls wore army green trenches and Uggs, while all the boys wore too skinny jeans and duffel bag. I wondered how so many people convinced themselves dressing like each other was "cool". Talk about being basic, I mean, I'm all for trends but this just wasn't okay. Don't get me wrong I saw many cute boys, hallelujah for big city schools! Boo for big-absolutely-impossible-to-navigate-or-find-a-class-too-small-hallways-to-get-around-in-big-city school.

Little did I know this school had something more than an overwhelmed environment to offer me.
