Chapter Six: Must You Perform Autopsies In The Forest?

AKI raised her head as the car slowed to a stop. She looked out of the window, looking at the tall array of trees. She slid forward and stuck her head between the two front seats.
"This is the place?" She asked.
"Yep," Gojo replied. "Let's go."
She slid back and opened the door. Nathan followed her out, then Gojo. As she closed the door, her lips began to pull into a frown. Her chest tightened and her fingertips twitched.
"Nathan," She muttered, looking at him over the roof of the car. "Get over here."
He looked at her for a moment before his lips formed in a pout. "Come on, Aki, don't do this."
"Nathaniel," She said sternly, reaching for the collar of her shirt. "Now."
He rolled his eyes and began to drag his feet as he walked to her. She pulled a vial on a chain from under her shirt, popping the cork off. She dipped some of the liquid onto her finger before swiping it across her brother's head, making a cross with it.
"Gojo," She called, making him look back at her. "Come here."
"What's that?" He asked.
"Bend down here," She said, lifting her hand to him. He cocked a brow and turned his head to Nathan. She grabbed him by his chin and forced his head back to face her. She did the same to his forehead.
"Holy water," Nathan explained with a sigh. "If Aki detects a demonic spirit near, it's part of her duty to protect any non-demon hunter, so she crosses them with holy water."
"Demons are repelled by it," She muttered, forcing the cork back on the vial before tucking it back into her shirt. "So if they try to attack you, they'll be forced away. It's a measure of protection. Though to Nathan, it's like getting sunscreen put on at the beach."
"You do it every time," He said.
"I'd rather you not get eaten by a demon. Especially a yōkai," She said, taking the ink pen from her shirt. It shifted into a handgun in her palm.
"You worry too much, Aki," He sighed.
"I worry for good reason," She said, glancing back at him before turning her attention ahead of them. "I can sense the demon. It's not here, but it has been recently. I can't tell exactly when, though. This forest...it's messing me up."
"It's a hotspot for lower grade curses," Gojo said. "Usually first-years are sent here to get some experience without being injured too badly."
"Do they usually return with injuries?" Nathan asked.
