Chapter Twenty-Eight: Till Death Do Us Part

A knock on the door made Aki rise from the chair beside the bed. She made sure that the pillow was tucked under Nathan's head comfortably, and the blanket was covering him, sealing him away from the cold. She made sure that he was okay before she walked away from the bed, and towards the door.

She slid the chain lock away and reached for the knob, turning it down before pulling open the door. The moment her gaze fell onto the set of glacier eyes, she slammed the door shut again. However, a hand against the door made it stop.

"Aki, listen to me."

Her grip on the knob tightened. "Give me one good reason."

"The sorcerers didn't hurt Nathan." He sighed and stuck his foot in the door before she could fully slam it shut.

"Move your foot, or I'll cut it off with the door," She warned.

"I'm telling the truth, Aki. We didn't hurt Nathan. He came to us like that," Gojo said.

"I'm sure he did," She spat. "And I'm sure the blood on that sorcerer's blade was just ketchup, right?"

"That blood wasn't his," Gojo said. Aki's grip on the knob loosened.

"Why should I believe anything you tell me?" She asked.

"Because I wouldn't lie to you," He slowly began to push the door open more, peering at her over the rim of his glasses. "I trust you, Aki. So trust me."

"If it wasn't Nathan's blood, then who did it belong to?" She asked after a moment.

"Marius," Gojo replied. "He came to the school again and attacked Itadori. Nathan jumped in front of him."

"I definitely believe that one," She scoffed.

"Aki—" He sighed as he held the door open. "I'm telling you the truth. If you don't believe it coming from me, ask Nathan."

She set her jaw. "It'll be a miracle if he gets up."

Gojo's shoulders rose and fell with his sigh. "Aki, I promised you that I wouldn't let any sorcerer touch you or Nathan. Did you expect me to back down on that?"

"If Marius truly did attack," She stated. "Then I expected you to protect my brother in my absence."

"I wasn't there," He frowned. "I was told after the matter had happened. I arrived when Nathan called you. The other sorcerers protected him."

"Nothing but lies spill from your mouth," She laughed. "And you honestly think I'm stupid enough to believe any of them? I meant what I said. Our contract is over. Marius is your own problem now."
