✧ common mistakes when writing tvd

here is a list of mistakes i often see involving the mikaelsons! this is just for clarification.

1. the mikaelson siblings from oldest to youngest:
freya
finn
elijah
klaus
kol
rebekah
henrik

2. the mikaelsons had magic before they were turned. kol was the only one who practiced being a witch (freya too i'm guessing but she was gone).

3. the salvatore boarding house was not built when katherine was there. they lived in another house. if your oc hasn't been there since, they cannot have their old room in the boarding house.

4. klaus' hybrids needed elena's blood to turn. i'm not sure if anything changed in the originals, but in tvd, he couldn't randomly turn anyone without her blood.

5. a vampire cannot dagger an original. they will die.

6. to dagger an original, the dagger needs to have white oak ash.

7. klaus could not activate his werewolf side before the curse was broke. i'm surprised this is a mistake i see a lot because it was the whole point of his presence in season 2. he had to break the curse.

8. i don't think this is a mistake as much as it is something that a lot of people have been confused about, myself included, but i think i finally figured it out.

original vampires seem to be basically indestructible and it takes a lot of strength to harm them. their necks aren't snapped easily nor are their bones broken. i believe that's why witches can't just snap their neck, they have to be powerful because it requires a lot of strength.

i noticed this and am guessing that it's true based on examples. damon said that he couldn't destroy elijah's body. i think he tried cutting it and burning it but it wouldn't work. damon struggled to snap his neck. when finn and kol fought, it took finn a good few seconds to break kol's hand and it took a lot of strength to do so.

9. a vampire does not age right away when they take the cure. the cure has to leave their body.

10. a lot of vampires don't have daylight rings. the ones we know have them, but i believe they mentioned at the beginning that many didn't. rose and her friend didn't and they were, i think, around five centuries old.

11. the daylight ring can only be worn by the person it was meant to be used on. for example, damon can't wear stefan's.

12. the mikaelson family was viewed as myths. they were legends. not everyone knew about them and considering they didn't know klaus and elijah were brothers, i'm guessing not many knew that they were related. i don't think they even knew that the originals were a family until season 3 and i don't think they knew that their name was mikaelson. this seemed to be retconned a little bit though because many seemed to know them in the originals.
