i really do mean it.

no redemption for her in the show and betrayed anyone who tried to help her. so really good luck.

with that being said, i think there are a few things you can do to get around that. maybe.

because here's the thing about katherine.

she is selfish, most of the fandom will admit that.

however.

what people like to ignore is that most likely that selfishness did not built over 500 years. it already existed within her.

what does she say right before she's about to turn?

"better you die than me."

she was not a vampire yet. she was not 500 years. she was human. she had not been running from klaus for 500 years, at that point i think she was only running for a few minutes, hours at most because from the way i remember if, they made it seem like she just found out. and when she was with klaus and elijah she didn't seem to be afraid so i highly doubt she knew.

anyways.

she was willing to betray and get people killed from when she turned.

trevor was in love with her and helped her escape from klaus in the first place and she betrayed him.

however, i don't think it was said that she was in love with trevor. maybe if she was she would've thought differently. maybe she would've done something different.

i personally doubt it but that's just my opinion.

one way i could really see it is having her love interest be someone she grew up with. maybe a childhood friend.

we don't really know why katherine's fundamentally selfish.

is she just like that? is that just who she is? was she like that because of her parents? was it how she was raised or how she grew up?

we don't know.

use the fact that we don't know.

maybe it just happened after nadia was taken from her.

maybe she was really a nice person growing up.

and if she has someone who she is really close and loyal to from the time she's young that could either make her less selfish when she's older or she's still selfish, but not for this person. this person means something to her, she loves them, she's loyal to them.

or accept that your love story isn't perfect.

very rare to see in fanfics (at least the ones i've read)

but love stories don't have to be perfect.

think stefan and katherine for example. they didn't have a happy ending. they weren't perfect.
