✧ common misconceptions

1. rebekah is not necessarily the first vampire ever.

we don't know who is.

the show showed rebekah waking up and i think klaus too. it did not show finn or kol and i'm pretty sure it didn't show elijah. we also don't know if mikael was already turned.

the next bit is my own opinion, feel free to use it if you like:

i don't see why esther would turn her youngest child and only daughter first for a spell she had never tried before. the goal was to protect all of them so that they wouldn't die. so i really don't think it makes sense for esther and mikael to kill them not being 100% certain it will work. my guess is mikael went first.

2. originals could possibly turn it off.

this one is more my own opinion but people take what was said in the show as fact when i think what was said in the show was open to interpretation.

someone in the show said that older vampires lost the ability to turn it off. i believe it was rose.

however, just because they don't have control over it doesn't mean that it can't be turned off.

for example, maybe someone like silas who was able to get into klaus' head could turn it off. maybe if they were in so much pain their switch would just flip.

we don't really know.

also if that's the case, why would katherine say that she doesn't turn it off and instead she deals with her emotions?

she's not as old as the originals but that would mean even 500 year old vampires have the ability to turn it off.

3. what happens to a sire line when an original takes the cure is not confirmed.

the only person who said that only the original will turn human is tyler. who doesn't know. no one knows because it hasn't been done. he also assumed they could kill klaus once he was human and the line would survive.

my guess is there are three possibilities:

1. everyone turns human

2. only the original turns human and the line stays vampires

3. only the original turns human and the line stays vampires but they all die when the original dies.

4. heretics don't only belong to the gemini coven

there is nothing said in the show that confirms this. it's just the case that all heretics in the show have belonged to the coven (which makes sense because it was a focus of season 6 with the gemini made prison worlds) but it is never said that heretics cannot be from outside that coven.

5. klaus was a hybrid before he arrived in mystic falls

i see this one a little too much for something that was the main point of his character in season 2.

klaus was not a hybrid before this. his werewolf side was not active. that's what he was trying to fix with the sacrifice. so he shouldn't be given werewolf features if you're writing him before the vampire diaries takes place.

6. during the vampire diaries elena's blood is needed to turn into a hybrid

i see this one quite a bit too. idk if it changes towards the end of the originals or in legacies but in the vampire diaries a werewolf needs to drink elena's blood when they wake to complete the transition. they cannot turn like a normal vampire.

7. blood from the vein isn't needed when turning

i also see it quite a bit where they have to drink directly from the vein when they turn or else it doesn't work. this is not true and caroline turned from drinking from a blood bag.

8. daylight rings can be transferred

no they can't. the ring (or other item) needs to be used by the person it was made for.
