The two witches sat in silence. Wanda fidgeted quietly with her mug while Scarlett stared off into space the silvery tracks of her tears still shining bright.
"Wanda?" asked Scarlett quietly.
"Hm?" responded Wanda looking up at the other witch.
"I can't stay here," Scarlett said, her voice soft and eyes closing.
"But you said you'd help me! And I've barely had time to learn everything I need to know. You said that yourself!" Wanda's voice quivered with worry and desperation.
"I know," Scarlett admitted. "But you must understand that this arrangement hasn't helped us all that much."
"But-" Wanda started, but Scarlett cut her off.
"Wanda, you must understand that between our shared trauma we have so much to work through within ourselves that we weren't going to find much success. At the end of the day, I will be helping you more by taking my leave." Scarlett smiled slightly, and a glimmer of sadness and pain was visible in her eyes.
"Please!" Wanda begged but she knew it was a futile effort.
"I'm sorry, Wanda," Scarlett murmured. "Trust me, this is for the best."
Wanda breathed heavily as she struggled to come to terms with the witch's departure. Through her whirlwind of emotions, she managed to squeeze out one word.
"Okay"
Scarlett looked sorrowfully at Wanda.
"Wanda?"
Wanda looked up at the departing witch. Scarlett gave her a small smile before parting with her final words.
"Thank you"
Wanda watched as Scarlett's projection faded, felt as the echoes of Scarlett's presence faded and dissipated to nothing.
Wanda got up from the chair she had been sitting in and washed out her tea mug in the sink. The weight of responsibility to teach herself now rested on her shoulders, slowing her steps as she set the cup to dry and headed to her bedroom.
The Darkhold rested on her bed. Soft whispers seemed to drift around Wanda as she stared at the cover. Urging her to reach out and touch it.
I wouldn't listen to it yet.
"Okay, who is this now?" yelled Wanda in frustration.
Don't you recognize my voice? I helped you wake Scarlett.
"Yes, you told me that you'd explain more later..." Wanda thought out loud.
I did say that. And well, I kinda lied.
Wanda rolled her eyes and flopped onto her bed next to where the Darkhold lay. Staring at the ceiling she sighed. "Somehow I'm not surprised."
I also knew you weren't going to be fond of what I actually meant.
"And what exactly was that?" Wanda asked dryly.
You need to learn how to be a witch, correct?
"I mean yeah? How else am I supposed to seek to bring back someone I care about from the NetherRealm?" Wanda said, confusion displayed on her face.
I know someone who can help and they should be here soon.
"Great, another variant teacher?" Wanda scoffed quietly under her breath.
No.
Wanda furrowed her brow in confusion.
You'll see.
Wanda sighed and closed her eyes while laying on her bed. She had been through enough for one day.
Some amount of time passed before there was a knock on the cabin door. The second knock woke up Wanda.
"Is this your person?" asked Wanda.
No response.
"Hello??" called Wanda exasperated.
No response.
Another knock at the door.
Groaning Wanda went to the door and opened it.
Then she slammed it shut.
"What kind of SICK joke is this?" she yelled in to the silence.
"Hello?" came a voice from outside. "Wanda, I'm here to see you."
"NO" yelled Wanda in response.
"I had hoped we might be able to move past our differences now that some time has passed." came the voice from outside.
"What do you want?" Wanda said, barracading the door with her body. Magic coursing around her hands as her emotions grew stronger.
"To help? You need to learn about being a witch, correct?" the voice replied in a tone that twinged of impatience.
"I don't need your help." Wanda shot back scathingly.
"Who else can help you?" the voice asked.
"I can figure this out on my own if I need." Wanda stood her ground.
"Look just let me in Wanda. Just talk about this over some tea? I'm freezing out here." the voice tried seeking reason.
"I'm not letting you in." Wanda shouted.
"I mean I can wait but my goodness I'm going to freeze first." the voice commented dryly.
Wanda steeled herself and opened the door, catching the figure outside by surprise.
"Well that was quick--" the figure started before getting flung backwards by a blast of red chaos magic.
Wanda stood in the doorway of her cabin. Fists clenched, magic pulsating.
The figure slowly got up, brushing themself free of dirt. "Pleasure to see you again Wanda"
"Leave now," threatened Wanda.
"Come now" shruged the figure. "We can talk about this"
"No, the chance of that is long gone." Wanda smiled venomously. "You ruined that on the day where you took everything from me."
"You set yourself up to fail, Wanda. I only brought the truth to light," shrugged the figure.
Wanda laughed wickedly.
"You know exactly what you did, Agatha."
