Wanda opened her eyes and quickly shut them. The sun was glaring right into her eye and her entire head pounded. Wanda slowly made movements to get up, her body stiff and sore from her earlier impact.
Wanda got up and stumbled over to Scarlett's motionless body on the ground. Wanda dropped to her knees and shook the older witch.
"Scarlett!" Wanda tried waking her. But no response. "This isn't your fault. I am okay and we are gonna be okay..."
Wanda stayed beside the witch, trying every last way she could imagine to wake someone up. Wanda almost gave up, sweat trickling down her back and the sun beat down at the nape of her neck.
Sweet Wanda
You need not worry.
Wanda worriedly glanced around looking for the source of the voice.
Scarlett will be okay.
But she needs your help to escape.
"What can I do I tried everything I could think of..." Wanda said hurriedly, feeling defensive.
Little witchling
A sparkle of little laughter illuminated through the voice.
You tried everything but a spell
"Oh. Well, I guess I didn't know a good one off the top of my head..." Wanda admitted sheepishly. She fidgeted with her rings while feeling mildly ashamed.
Well, now you know what to do. Go wake up our friend now, won't you?
Wanda cleared her throat and adjusted her position and raised her hands over Scarlett's body. Letting her chaos magic pool around her fingertips, Wanda silently hovered her hands over Scarlett's heart and closed her eyes.
Well? Go on. Recite the spell.
Wanda opened her eyes and withdrew her hands. Thoroughly confused she asked, "Wait, recite?"
Little witchling... haven't you learned anything?
"Umm well, most of my attempts have been altered in some way. Almost like someone is purposefully trying to prevent my success..." Wanda said wringing her hands, continuing to fidget and spin her rings around her fingers.
Okay, okay. That is something that must be fixed. But in the meantime, you must wake Scarlett up.
"Okay how do I do that?" asked Wanda as she got into a stance prepared to fight. More starry and twinkling laughter resonated around her.
You are incredibly amusing. Please sit or kneel, and hold on to Scarlett's hand.
"Okay..." Wanda felt a little awkward this time as she knelt at Scarlett's side and held on to the motionless witch's hand.
Do you know the root of any witch spell?
"No, I wasn't taught how to be--" Wanda started before she was abruptly cut off.
Of course, you weren't. Very well. Since we don't have time for a witch crash course, I'll just tell you what to say. The spell you need to say is this: surgite
"Sir-gee-tay?" Wanda sounded out.
Close enough, I can explain it after you wake up Scarlett. Okay now imagine your hand is pulling Scarlett's subconscious back in to her body.
"What is this? A guided meditation?" Wanda scoffed.
I would explain it if we had the time but first you have to trust me on this.
"Fun fact!" Wanda ground her teeth in irritation. "I may or may not have some unresolved trust issues!"
Look! I am sorry but I swear on everything I hold sacred that I will explain it to you after you wake Scarlett. Okay?
"Fine," Wanda amended. "Is that it? I do the imagining stuff and then say the word?"
Yes. But it's not easy...
"I don't care if it's easy or not. If that's it then be quiet so I can try." Wanda said angrily. The witch wasn't that mad at the voice helping her but more about the situation she was in.
The voice had no response so after taking a deep breath Wanda followed the voice's instructions.
"Surgite!" Wanda cried out.
No response or movement.
Again.
Wanda frowned at the order but composed herself and tried once more.
"Surgite!" Wanda shouted.
No response.
One more time.
Wanda was battered, she was sore from her ground collision and emotional exhaustion from the memories she revisited. Tears shimmered in the witch's eyes, threatening to fall.
Wanda dug deep into her emotions and cried out a final time
"SURGITE!"
A pause.
Then Scarlett's eyes opened as she drew in a sharp breath.
"Where am I? Who?" the traumatized older witch began while sitting up, then she saw Wanda and she let out a small laugh of relief. "Wanda! Thank you. You saved me."
"Are you alright?" Wanda asked gently.
"No" admitted Scarlett. "And while I don't want to talk about it..."
"Scarlett, we don't have to talk about anything you don't want to talk about." cut in Wanda worried.
"I might not want to talk..." Scarlett said looking down at her hand, her smile dissolved into tears. "But I think I need to."

Brief Author's Note!
Hope everyone is doing well! Now that school has begun for me I will have a lot of additional work to do! But I still should be able to post on time. Bear with me as chapters may be shorter to break up some events into more manageable writing lengths as I work to balance a lot this school year.
Please consider following me, I will post to my followers regarding if there are delays and give updates about anything big impacting the series. I don't foresee the need to go on hiatus anytime soon so I'll be sure to continue updating regularly!
Keep calm and read on!
