CHAPTER SIX
✧.* CHARLIE ✧.*Juliette found herself being flustered as Charlie came and sat with her, Cam and Belly moving behind them as they were in their own conversation.
"What do you got there?" Charlie gestured to the red cup in her hand, his scent of vanilla and cinnamon nearly making her collapse.
She looked down at the cup, splashing around the strong smelling liquor, "Great question. Snatched it from someone."
"Did you?" He laughed, taking the cup from her hand, their fingers brushing against each other's, he brought it to his lips, humming as he handed it back to her, "It's strong."
"I'll definitely need it." Juliette chuckled, downing the small amount that was left, "Jesus, that was strong."
Charlie raised his brows at the blonde, fighting his own laughter, "I told you."
"Are you new this summer?" Juliette asked curiously, playing with the ends of her hair.
He shook his head, "Yeah. My mom is friends with Cams mom. She invited us to stay for a bit. How about you?"
"No, I've been coming to Cousins ever since I was a baby. I stick pretty close to home when I'm here." Juliette explained, glancing down at the sand.
"Mm." He hummed understandingly, "How come?"
Juliette shrugged, "Guess because I-I don't really know anybody, other than my family."
"Now you do." He chuckled, "So, like, who are the other... the other guys you were with? Was any of them, like, your boyfriend?"
The blonde bit her bottom lip, tearing her eyes from the sand to look at his, "No. They're, um, they're my moms best friends, best friends sons."
Charlie furrowed his brows, "A lot of best friends."
Juliette giggled softly, "Tell me about it. We stay at their house every summer. They're just mad that we're here."
"I'm really glad you came. 'Cause I did not want to come. I knew it was just gonna be a bunch of kids, like, getting drunk, and Cam doesn't drink at all. I thought I was gonna be on my own." Charlie lilted, flashing a bright smile at the blonde.
"Neither does Belly. So, if Cams a local, how does he know all these summer people?" Juliette inquired, crossing her legs.
"Oh, his mom works at the country club, so he grew up around them." Charlie explained.
Juliette hummed, "Hey, do you know anything about that-that debutante thing? It's-it's dumb, right?"
"I mean, it's definitely, like, steeped in the patriarchy, if that's what you're talking about. Cam tells me all about it. But it's actually, like, not total garbage. They do, like, a big fundraiser every year. Last year, Elizabeth Warren ended up showing up." Charlie took his phone from his pocket, opening up his photos as he turned the screen towards her.
Juliette's eyes lit up at the picture, in total awe as she gasped lowly, "Oh, my God. Wow!"
Cam approached the two, Belly behind him with a closed lip smile, "It's pretty late. Um... I really don't want to leave right now, but we have to be up really early in the morning because we're interning on a whale-watching boat."
The blonde nodded, her eyes lingering to behind the curly haired boy at the clamoring nearby, she moved her head to get a better look.
She watched as Conrad and the boy from the gas station got in each other's faces, Juliette stammered as she interrupted him, "Oh, my gosh. Uh... I'll be right back."
"You guys, you guys, you guys." Juliette hurried over to them, an elbow flying back as it clocked her in the cheek, she whimpered as she hit the sand.
"Juliette." She heard her name, immediately knowing it was Conrad.
An hand was placed on her back, tugging down her button up as the person helped her up, she glanced up with narrowed eyes, Charlie helping steady her.
"Thanks." Juliette mumbled, pushing her hair from her face as her eyes watered, her cheek surely swelling.
Before Charlie could even respond, the blue and red lights flashed across them, he cursed under his breathe, grabbing Juliette's wrist as he fled them from the scene.
They laughed, running past numerous groups of panicked people until they got to Jeremiah's bright colored jeep, she could feel the Fishers eyes burning into her.
"Julie. Let's go. Get in." Jeremiah demanded, his hand gripping the wheel as he watched the two talk indistinctly.
She glanced at him, "Can't I just get a ride with Belly, Cam and Charlie?"
"No, you're not gonna get in a car with a guy you just met." Jeremiah spat, giving her a cold stare.
"I'm Charlie." He stuck his hand threw the window, Jeremiah just stared blankly at him, he retrieved his hand.
Cam and Belly stood behind them, Cam stepping up to the window, "I'll drive them. My name is Cam. Cameron."
Jeremiah raised his brows, "Your name is Cam Cameron?"
"No, it's ju-just Cam. But we actually, me and Belly know each other. Seventh grade. Latin convention. So, like, we're not total strangers. And Juliette's fine, she'll be in the back with Charlie." Cam explained, a warm smile on his face.
"Okay. No offense, but no. Juliette, get in the car. Belly, c'mon." Jeremiah started to get annoyed, rolling his eyes at the group.
Belly parted her lips, shaking her head, "No, I'm fine to go with Cam. Juliette can come."
"Belly I said no. Both of you get in the car." Jeremiah gritted through his teeth, Juliette scoffed under her breathe.
She smiled at Charlie, "I'll see you around.
Belly kissed Cam, smiling as she got into the passenger seat, Juliette internally screaming as she sat beside Conrad.
"Was that so hard?" Conrad gazed over at her, she kept her head down as she didn't reply.
Jeremiah reversed, taking down the road with speed before halting the car, making everyone jolt, Juliette put her arm across Conrad's body, attempting to stop him from flying into the front seat.
Conrad glanced down at her arm, a smile coming across his lips.
"Fuck! Steven!" Jeremiah cursed, "Belly, c'mon. Watch Conrad. I'll be right back." He glared at Juliette.
The two exited the car, Juliette crossing her arms over her body as she turned to look out of the window, feeling the ends of her hair being tugged softly.
