CHAPTER TEN
✧.* FANCY HATS ✧.*Walking through the fancy shops, arm interlocked with Belly's, the two laughed at the ridiculously shaped hats on the displays, earning scoldings from Susannah.
The older blonde held up a dress to her body, puffy sleeves, a light blue with printed flowers, Juliette hummed in approval.
She nearly said yes to every clothing item that was shown to her, multiple light and dark blues coming home with her.
"You know, I think I wanna be a deb." Belly raised her brows with a smile, Juliette and Susannah squealing at her.
The two younger girls held bags in their hands as they explored the downtown of Cousins Beach, pointing to various items through the windows.
"Okay, they're called "fascinators," and all the girls will be wearing them." Susannah gestured towards the hat, it's tiny oval shape and large bow making the girls burst out with laughter.
Juliette placed the hat on her head, immediately throwing it down with a head shake, she knew Susannah would buy it anyways.
She hummed as she passed the variety of big dresses, Belly trying on hers as the two moms shook their heads at her.
Juliette's stare lingered on a dress in particular, feeling weirdly drawn to it, she ran her fingers down the silk, the strapless dress hanging before her.
"That's the dress you're mother wore to the debutante her first year. God, you should've heard the way she raved about this dress." Susannah chuckled, reminiscing about her late friend while placing her hands on Juliette's shoulders.
A smile came across her face, "Really? It's gorgeous."
Susannah reached for the dress, taking it down as she folded it across her arm, leading Juliette to the dressing rooms, she placed it in one of the rooms.
Juliette struggled to put the dress on, adjusting the ends of it as it puffed out, it fit like a glove, the embroidered white flowers pooling on the floor.
She smiled at herself, reaching for the curtain as she pulled it open, Laurel and Susannah having tears in their eyes at the girls appearance, Belly gawking at her with wide eyes.
"Wow. It's-Its beautiful." Susannah croaked, holding her hands to her heart, "You're mother would've loved to see you in a white dress."
"Yeah." Juliette mumbled, breathing out as she glanced at herself in the mirror, Susannah coming up behind her.
Susannah fixed the back of the dress, her eyes filled with tears, "Do you think this is the one?"
"I think so." Juliette nodded, chuckling lightly as she flattened out the dress, leaning back into Susannah.
Juliette sat in her bedroom, running her eyes over the dress, the beauty of it hidden inside of a garment bag.
With the new dress on, she left the house, sitting in the backseat, playing the her fingers as Laurel drove them to the country club.
Time had flown, Belly exiting the car, Juliette checking her appearance through the mirror, Laurel rolled it down making Juliette step back.
