CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
✧.* THE BITCH ✧.*Fourth of July at Cousins was like no other American celebration, the Fishers were known for going all out with the clam bake, to many deserts to count, alcohol served all day long and ending with massive fireworks on the beach.
Sitting at the table, Belly was finishing up a bowl of cereal, Jeremiah staring at her like a hawk, and Juliette watching the two with amusement.
As Belly left the bowl filled with milk, Jeremiah hurried to empty it, the two girls laughing as they watched him gulp all of it down.
"Yo, I'm gonna go wash the clams. Did you get the lighter fluid?" Conrad entered the kitchen, nodding his head towards Jeremiah.
"Mm." Jeremiah hummed, swallowing the last bit of milk as he placed the bowl down gently, "Yeah, it's already on the beach."
Steven passed Conrad as he walked into the home, dressed in a nice button up with Susannah following behind him, "Are we done with the portrait yet?"
"Yeah, for today. But you do look good in a dress shirt, Steven." Susannah complimented, glancing over at the girls sitting at the dining table, "Uh, which makes me think if they don't hurry up and ask boys to that ball, you should take one of them."
"Ew, no." Belly quickly responded, nearly gagging as Juliette just scrunched her face up.
Steven agreed with them, "No, no, no, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm already going with Shayla."
Laurel furrowed her brows at her sons words, taken aback by it, "To the debutante ball? As an escort?"
"Wrap your head around it, Mom, all right?" Steven chuckled underneath his breathe, "Shayla's coming today with Nicole and Gigi, so you'll meet her."
"That's wonderful." Susannah smiled largely, "Oh, and don't forget, Ms. Covington's first dance rehearsal is tomorrow, so, uh, tick-tock."
Belly nodded, tucking her dark hair behind her ear as she peered over at the older blonde, "We're asking them today."
"I don't know my kids anymore." Laurel shook her head, holding bright bowls of food.
Juliette narrowed her eyes as she examined the woman's face, sensing that something had looked different, "Wait, are you wearing makeup?"
"Yeah, she's wearing makeup." Susannah teased her friend, making Laurel roll her eyes.
"Mom!" Steven gawked, his jaw opened wide with shock.
Laurel shook her head, jumping to defend herself, "So what? We're having a party."
"Mm-hmm. I'm sure it has nothing to do with John coming to the clam bake?" Susannah nudged her, a sly smirk on her lips.
"Oh, please. The husbands always come for the Fourth." Laurel shot back with her head still shaking.
Belly furrowed her brows, leaning on her elbows, "He's not your husband anymore."
Everyone's eyes fell on the brunette, the air getting awkward as Laurel simply chuckled, "Oops. Yeah.Ex-husband."
"You know, I still don't understand why you invited Dad's girlfriend." Belly blurted, pursuing her lips.
