*Ciel's POV*
The others took a peek and saw that there were more ghosts blocking our way from going further down into the mines. Which is a problem for us since we need to find the magestone as quickly as possible. I could tell that the others were starting to get restless and annoyed with each passing time. Which I can't blame them since I was getting restless by the whole situation but I pushed those feelings away so I can stay focus on keeping these three from fighting each other. Which is hard for me to do considering there is only so much I can do since I don't have magic, but at least I can use a pickaxe on them.
"More ghosts?! They're floating around here too!" Ace groans
"If we stop to fight, we'll never get anywhere. Let's just keep moving." Deuce suggested
"Sure, but don't act like we voted you team leader. The only reason we're here in the first place is because of that stupid stunt you pulled." Ace said as I look at them
"Well to be fair, he's the reason we're still alive." I said as Deuce remarks
"Oh? I'm pretty sure this all started because you tried to shirk your window-cleaning punishment!" Ace got angry
"So we're bringing up ancient history now? Then if you wanna get down to brass tacks, this all started when furball torched that statue!" Ace said pointing towards Grim.
"Myah?! Maybe you shouldn'ta made fun of me, then!" Grim shouts at him as I take another peek from our hiding spot to see that the ghosts were gone, we then got out of hiding.
"All of you stop fighting! Now is not the time for it!" I shout at the three, annoyed with their useless fighting.
"Ciel's right, guys! We're in real hot water, remember?! If we don't come back with a magestone by morning, we're all being expelled!" Deuce informs us
"Yeah, which is why we don't need you ordering the rest of us around. It gets old real fast." Ace told Deuce
I froze as I began to hear something that didn't come from me or the others as I looked forward as I saw something big. I began to backup with dread, which made the three to stop arguing and look at me in confusion as to why I'm backing up.
"Wait... I think I heard a voice just now." I said as I heard whatever it was coming towards us.
"... iiivvv... ...oooouuu..." We began to look around
"Huh?!" We all gasped out in a panic
"Wh-where's that comin' from?" Ace asked
"I think it's coming through there." I said pointing foward
"... neeevvvaaa... ...iiivvv... ...ooouuu..."
"I think it's saying 'never give you?'" I said to the others
"Sounds like... it's getting closer..." Deuce said
We look to see a giant monster-like creature come out of the darkness in what looks like its in pain but not at the same time. It's head was that of an lantern and was wearing what looks to be old miner clothes as well as a hat on top of it's head? But what caught my attention was the fact it was covered in a ink-like substance from head to toe. As I looked at it, I suddenly felt pain in my right eye as I clutched the eye patch as I groan while me and the others looked at the monster.
"Stooonesss... Stooonesss aaare miiiiine!" The monster said
"Bwah! There it is!" All four of us cried out
"Run!" I shouted as we ran away from the monster
After a while of running, we stopped running when we saw that the monster was not behind us and began to catch our breath. But I knew that it was only a matter of time before it catches up to us and hurt us for coming here. But could that be why the ghosts are now gone? Was that monster scare them off or was that thing responsible for their death when they were alive?
'Whatever the reason was... I don't plan to find out!' I thought to myself as I do not want to die by that thing.
"What is that?!" Deuce asked in a panic
"Myaaah! No one said there'd be monsters! Let's get outta here!" Grim cries in my arms despite me also holding a pickaxe
'Aren't you a monster though?' I thought to myself
"Calm yourself, Grim!" I said as I was trying to calm him down so he doesn't pass out.
"That thing's super creepy! But didn't it just say something about 'stones'?!" Ace asked as my eyes widen
"Wait, what?!" Me and Grim shouts as the monster caught up to us.
"Stooonesss... ...Nevvva give stooonesss...!" It groans out as I watch more of the inky substances fall with each time it talks.
"Ah!" We all gasp out
"So there ARE still magestones here!" Deuce stated with relief
"But the question is how do we get to it with that monster blocking our way?" I questioned as the monster doesn't seem that easy to get by
"Myaaah... Even as a master sorcerer, I... I don't think I can take that thing down!" Grim cries out
"But we need a magestone or we'll get expelled! I'm going in!" Deuce said as we stare at him in shock and horror.
"Are you outta your mind?!" Ace yells at him
"It's too dangerous!" I yelled as I felt pain in my right eye.
"I won't be expelled! No matter What!" Deuce said
He began to fight the monster by using his magic as the rest of us looked on as the fight progressed with each passing time. But much to my horror, it looked like Deuce magic was barely doing anything to the monster with each attack. It was as if something was protecting it from any attacks and blows Deuce dealt to it despite how strong his spells were. But it would still groan like it was in pain despite having no wounds present on his body like one would expect. I saw that it was preparing for an opportunity to attack since it barely attacked Deuce as he was dodging it attack.
'This will not end well...'
