Chapter 20

You, Taehyung, and Jungkook were all gathered in the Great Hall for lunch. You sat on the other side while Taehyung and Jungkook sat beside each other. After enjoying your first plate, Jungkook excused himself to go to the bathroom since his stomach just acted up.

"You should try the mashed potato, it's absolutely delicious!" Taehyung said as he ate a spoonful of mashed potato with gravy.

"You've got some on your chin," You grimaced and pointed at his chin. He attempted to remove it but failed to do so and it was bothering you.

"What?" Taehyung asked.

"Oh let me get it for you." You sighed and reached out to Taehyung's chin to clean it up.

Jungkook came back and was looking back and forth between the two of you.

"Did I miss something?" Jungkook asked and sat back down beside Taehyung.

"Yeah, Taehyung eating like a child." You said and wiped your hand with a napkin.

Jungkook didn't felt threatened by things like this before because you're all so close and wiping dirt off each other's faces isn't such a big deal, but this time seemed different. He felt a jolting pain in his heart and feelings of envy and anger, in which he had never felt before. There was no competition, Jungkook knew Taehyung liked you since you were first years and he was certain he had never liked you like that as he did now. Jungkook was eager to help Taehyung in asking you out, but this time Jungkook saw Taehyung as a rival. Jungkook wanted to ask you out, especially since the Yule Ball is just around the corner. He was so blinded by his emotions that he nearly doesn't care about how Taehyung would feel, but there's something that makes Jungkook feel bad if he ever steals you away from Taehyung, because Taehyung is his best friend and has opened up to him a million times since you were first years and shared a lot of experiences together and he wasn't about to throw everything out the window just to get what he wants.

You were all gathered in the Great Hall with all the other Gryffindor 5th years for the upcoming Yule Ball. You dreaded this day to come, you hated balls because it needs a lot of preparation and especially, there's dancing.

Professor McGonagall was teaching the dance and Filch was assisting her with the music.

"The Yule Ball is first and foremost...a dance." Professor McGonagall explained. "The house of Godric Gryffindor has commanded the respect of the wizarding world for nearly ten centuries. I will not have you, in the course of a single evening, besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of baboons!"

Taehyung snickered and nudged Jungkook who was sitting beside him.

"Try saying that fast five times," Taehyung whispered.

"Babbling bumbling band of baboons." Jungkook attempted to repeat it fast.

You, on the other hand, were not enjoying this session as you were seated together with the girls and you could see Taehyung and Jungkook laughing and smiling across you and you wished you were there laughing with them.

Professor McGonagall signals Taehyung to come forth the dance floor, maybe she had noticed him fooling around in his seat. Taehyung walked to professor McGonagall reluctantly.

"Now, Mr. Kim, place your right hand on my waist." Professor McGonagall instructed which made Taehyung's eyes widen in shock.

"Where?!" Taehyung asked, pale-faced.

Professor McGonagall repeated her instructions and as Taehyung put his hand on her waist, you could clearly see Jungkook almost dying from laughter in his seat. They demonstrated the waltz together and after a while, Professor McGonagall beckons everyone to find a partner to dance with. Jungkook confidently stands up and makes his way to you.
