23 : School

(Hope pov)

I woke up to a blaring alarm clock.

I try to get up but Eddie just held me tighter.

"Eddie wake up! We need to get ready." I said

"Five more minutes." He groaned.

"Fine but at least let me up to turn that stupid alarm off." I said

He let go of me and rolled over.

I got up to turn the alarm off and grabbed a plain charcoal colored shirt, a pair of ripped jeans, my denim jacket, and walked to the bathroom.

I decided I needed a shower.

I got dressed and ready for the day and decided to wake up Eddie.

I walked over to the bed.

"Eddie wake up." I said

No response.

I shook him a little bit and he just rolled back over to face me.

"What?" He said groggily

"Get up. I'll try and find some cereal and milk for breakfast." I said

I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a box of cereal from the counter and started to search for some bowls.

There was no noise coming from his room so I walked in to make sure he actually got up. He had a pair of black jeans on and was shirtless.

He peeled one corner of the bandage that was covering the bullet wound.

He grabbed another bandage from the bag he got from the hospital and went to switch the bandages.

He pressed on the bandage and winced slightly to make it stay and had to hold on to the footrest of his bed with one hand so that he didn't fall.

"Jesus Christ that shit hurts." He mumbled under his breath and still not knowing I was there limped to his dresser for a shirt.

He put a black Metallica shirt on and went to walk out of his room trying not to limp so that he looked perfectly fine.

He almost ran into me as I was leaning on the doorway.

"Wha- how long have you been standing there?" He asked

"Long enough to realize your not fine like you said you were." I said

He looked down avoiding eye contact.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked

" ' cause I didn't want you to worry about me." He said quietly still not looking at me.

"Did that at least give you medicine for the pain?" I asked

"... no." He said still refusing to look at me

He looked guilty. Did he do something to make them not give him the meds?

"Is there a reason?" I asked

"I- uh... ok fine. They gave me them but I-" he trailed off

"You what? What did you do with the pills?" I asked

"I sold them." He mumbled

"You what?" I said not hearing him completely

"I sold them ok? I have responsibilities too Hope! I have movies to pay for, I have to pay off my van, and I owe a bunch of people money for random shit! I'm not as irresponsible as you think." He yells.

I know he's been through a lot this week and is still processing but it still hurt.

I stood there in complete shock. Does he think my life is easy?

I was lost for word so I just walked into the kitchen.

I grabbed one of the bowls and made my bowl of cereal.

We are in silence. He grabbed the keys to the van and we got in and drove to the school.

I got our first and before he could say anything I shut the door and walked into the school.

He walked in the school.

I went to my first class and sat besides Nancy.

"You ok? You look angry or something." Nancy said

"I'm fine." I said when the teacher walked in.

"Can I sit with you today?" I asked

"Of course!" She said

"Miss Sage, anything you would like to share with the class?" The teacher asked

"No, sorry." I said and stopped talking.

It was lunch now and I sat down with Nancy, Robin, Johnathan and Steve.

(Eddie pov)

I sat down at my table waiting for Hope to walk in.

She walked in the cafeteria and walked right past our table and sat down with Nancy.

Did I really make her that mad by not letting her see a freaking limp?

I scribbled a note on a post-it and as I walked past Nancy's table to get my lunch, I 'dropped' the note by Hope's plate.

I grabbed my lunch and sat my lunch down on my table and walked into the hallway.

(Hope pov)

I was talking to Nancy, avoiding Eddie completely. I heard walking behind me but thought nothing if it until there was a post-it folded up and placed beside my food.

I noticed one of the rings on his finger when he placed the note there.

I unfolded the note.

Meet me in the hallway in 5 mins.

-The freak

I looked over to Nancy and she nodded after seeing the note.

I got up from the table and walked into the hallway.

There he was waiting for me leaning on the wall.

"Hope I'm sorry ok? I shouldn't have kept it from you and I should've told you but I can't do this whole not acknowledging each other's existence ok? Please Hope." He blurted out

He had to take a minute to breathe after that because he was talking so fast.

"I'm so glad you said that and I'm sorry for making a big deal out of it. I just feel like you should've kept them so that you would've be in pain because I can't deal with you being in pain.... I hate it." I say

"So are we good?" He asked

"Yeah we're good." I said

"I'm still sitting with Nancy today because she's my friend but not because I'm mad at you." I tell him

"Ok." He says and I walk back to my seat at Nancy's table as Eddie goes to his table.

"So how'd it go?" Nancy asked

"Good. We're good now." I said

School was over and we were in the van driving home.

We were on Eddie's road when a deer ran in front of us and Eddie slammed on the brakes.

I grabbed his hand out of fear and he squeezed it.

"Are you okay?" He asked looking over to me after the deer had crossed.

"Yeah just scared me." I said as we drove to his house.

We got out of the car and walked inside.

"I'm bored Eds." I said sitting on the couch after finishing another movie.

"Wanna play a game?" He said

"Sure."

"Truth or dare?" He says

"Yeah sure." I say
