Chapter Two
When the cake finished Greg insisted that I go out and loosen up a bit. So he took me to one of the clubs in town and dropped me off. I guess he didn't want to stay. I went in and took a seat. In no time a guy was already buying me a drink.
“Thanks,” I tell him with a smile.
“no problem,” he smiles back, “my names Mark.”
“Juliana.”
As the night carried on, so did the drinking. I'm not quite sure how Mark got me drunk, since it was a very very very rare occurrence, but he managed to what I would so was the impossible. I think I knew from the beginning that he just wanted a one night stand. And for some godforsaken reason, that's what I was looking for too.
So it didn't surprise me when we started making-out. And honestly, I wasn't in that much of a mood to care when we got back to his car and started driving to my apartment. No, it was all fine when clothes were coming off as we walked to my bedroom.
It all made sense to me, it was so clear yet so blurry (probably because of my drunkeness). I knew this was payback for Adam. One of those “haha, I drink now!” thought I'm not quite sure how that affects him so much.
Anyways, I knew all of this, knew what was going on. What I didn't expect, what I wasn't waiting for, what caught me by over the top surprise was when this, what was his name? Mark? Yeah, when Mark and I fell onto my bed and heard another groaning sound.
Tip for everyone: make sure a bed is empty before hooking up in it.
So I screamed, Mark screamed and the guy in my bed screamed.
“Juliana?!?” I hear my brothers voice yell at me.
“Blake??!”
Mark quickly gets out of bed and dressed. “I'm going to, uh, go.” I nod without saying anything to him. After getting dressed too, I turn on my light and sit back down on my bed.
“so uh...”
he shakes his head, probably trying to get that memory out of it. “I didn't need to see that.” he tells me.
“what the hell are you doing in my room?”
“sleeping.”
“why?”
“because the sofa is too small and so is Katie's bed. This one wasn't.”
“dammit Blake, why are you here?!”
“I got a call that told me to catch the first flight out to Maine. So I did.”
I sigh, “who called you?”
“honestly? I don't know.”
“how could you not know?”
“sorry! I didn't recognize his voice! Not my fault!”
“fine. Fine.”
there was a pause between us before he speaks up again, “so, uh, want to talk about it?”
“talk about what Blake?”
“oh, I don't know. Maybe the fact that I got a call telling me to come here. Or how about the fact that you, my 'I don't drink' sister, is drunk. Ooh, or we could talk about how you were seriously just about to have a one night stand. Which one first?”
I sigh and lay back in bed. “none.”
“that's not going to fly. What happened?”
and then that's when it hit me. Everything from the phone call in June to seeing Adam for the first time to the wedding. The waterworks started and Blake pulled me into a tight brotherly hug.
“he-he didn't chase.” I stutter.
“ssh, we'll just talk in the morning.” he whispers and I nod against his chest. Minutes later, I fell into a nice deep sleep.

I wake up and yawn the next morning, with a killer headache. “morning sunshine.” Blake says, walking in with a tray filled of food, drinks, and medicine.
“morning.” I answer, still sounding exhausted. I eat and take the pills while Blake just sits there and watches television. When I finished, he started asking the questions.
“so, what have you been keeping from me this whole summer?” he asks, turning off the T.V.
“well, remember how I went to Italy for a wedding cake?”
“yeah.”
“I sort of didn't tell you that it was for Adam.” Blake stares at me blankly, “you know, my ex...”
“he fucking remarried?”
I laugh, “Remarried? Um, Blake, you're missing a key factor here, we were never married.”
Blake shrugs, “close enough.”
“anyways, yeah, I couldn't turn down the job because his step-dad is super rich and it wouldn't make sense if I said no to it. So that's why all four of us went to Italy. Finn and Dakota for backup support and Katie because, well, I want her to know her father. Long story short, I met up with him the first weekend and we actually had a nice civil conversation. I think it was good for me to talk things out with him finally. Anyways, he helped me design the cake because he didn't know it was his wedding I was working for. His mom wanted it to be a surprise and all. I'm just going to skip over all the media crap for now and go on to the wedding. You see, they were getting married because Stephanie, his wife, told Jacqueline, Adam's mother, that Adam was the father of her son, Tristan. Now this could actually be true, and was thought to even be true when Adam and I were together, because he and Stephanie were together while Adam was still in Italy. Anyways, Tristan, it turns out, is actually the son of this guy named Ben. That was lie number one. The second thing was that she was cheating on him, which I got proof of. But, even after telling him, he wouldn't believe me. So, fast forward to the wedding. I wrote him a note inserting the picture of Stephanie and another guy. Plus I made the wedding cake the one he designed so that he knew it was made by me and I put the wedding ring he gave me on top of it.” I take a deep breath, getting to the end. “I sat at the airport for hours that day, waiting for him to run down the hall screaming my name, but he never showed. So I just got on the plane and left Italy.” I stop there.
Blake stares at me for a moment, shocked, “um, did you forget your daughter?”
“oh! Yeah, Katie is going to be spending summers in Italy. I know you don't like Adam, and I'm not too fond of him at the moment either. But you know how I feel about fathers.”
“I know, and I trust that you made the right decision.” he looks out the window for a moment and then back at me, “and what about Jon?”
I laugh, “He proposed to me about a week and a half or so ago. Over the phone nonetheless. The ring was in my suitcase. Anyways, it was big and gold and ugly and I hated it. I had to say no to him because he obviously didn't know me, plus, I just can't marry Jon. I never liked him like that, I just thought I could get over Adam easier if I was with someone. Which never actually worked. So Adam and I tossed the ring into a wishing fountain in Italy and made a ton of wishes, assuming it was worth at least 10,000 pennies.”
Blake laughs, “you would so do that.”
“yeah, well, he told me to keep a ring I didn't want.”
he shakes his head at my stupidity, “you look exhausted sister of mine.”
“I hate the time differences.”
“very true. Want to sleep some more?” he asks.
I nod slowly, “okay, well, we'll talk about last night later. Get some more sleep.”
He picks up the dirty dishes and walks out of the room, letting me sleep once again.
When I woke up there was a pair of arms wrapped around me.
