The doctor said that they’d run a few more tests tomorrow and then he could go home. The only question is, where is home?Italy, Finn andDakotas, or my place? We all thought it would be best for him to choose. After all, it is his life, not ours.

When Jacqueline and the others leave the room to go back to the hotel, Katie was quick to run in there. Blake and Jenny were still there along with Finn, though Finn was just asleep in the seat next to me. I smile and stand up, “hey, could you guys give Finn a lift home?”

Blake nods, “what about Katie?”

“I think she needs to spend time with her dad. She’ll just be here tonight but I’m sure that won’t be a problem.”  I hug them both goodbye and leave them to wake Finn up. When I enter to room Katie was on Adams bed and they were playing a card game. I quietly take a seat next to the bed and allow them to finish their game of war. Katie won the game, tossing her cards all over the room. Any other day I would be mad at her, telling her to clean it up. But today I wasn’t. Today I was just glad to see Adam okay.

“you know, you can join us on the bed if you’d like,” Adam offers with a smile.

“But then I wouldn’t get to enjoy watching you two.” Katie pushed back the bed table thing and crawled into his arms, ready for sleep. “Do you want me to move her?” I ask.

“and have her sleep in a chair? No, this will be fine. Now get in the bed before I come drag you over here myself?”

I smile, shaking my head, “though it would be quite entertaining watching you try to get out of bed with all those monitors attached to you, I think I’ll save the nurses some trouble and do it myself.” I climb into the bed and Katie moves to sitting on me.

“mommy, are we having a sleep over?” she asks excitedly.

“sure sweetie.” It was well past her bedtime but I didn’t care. She had the right to be after not seeing her dad for almost a month.

“if that’s so, then you have to get under the covers.” This girl is seriously going to be the death of me.

I pull the covers back and climb under, much to Adams liking. I think he was handling this memory loss thing better than me. But then again, he was always able to adapt to situations quicker than I did.

How we managed to comfortably fit three people in that small bed, I still don’t know. But with Katie on our laps, sleeping, I guess it wasn’t so hard. “Do I get to hear the story of us yet?” I roll my eyes. He was way to eager for this while I just didn’t want to talk about it. Jacqueline had told me that he asked her about it when they were talking, that’s how badly he wanted to know.

“Not all of it right now. We’d be up all night if that were the case.”

“The beginning then?”

I think about this for a second. That did seem like the best story to tell right, plus it would be the start of the relationship. At the same time though, I’d have to talk about my past to have him understand the story.

“Sure. The beginning. But to understand the start of us, you’ll need to know a little history of me. When I graduated from high school, I had this plan of attending the University of Washington for college that following fall. A week after my graduation though, my parents got into a car crash, very similar to what happened to you. Neither of them survived it.” I pause, waiting for the common ‘I’m sorry’ to come from him. But it doesn’t. He just sits there and waits for me to continue. “After the funeral, my best friend sent my on a trip to Italy. My first night there I got drunk at a club and you found me talking with a group of guys. It’s pretty funny cause you were dressed up in a knight costume from a play your sister dragged into. So  I kept calling you my knight in shining armor all night. Since I couldn’t remember the name of the hotel I was staying at, you just took me to you apartment. I guess after that we just became friends. I finally stopped paying for a hotel room and you let me stay in the guest room at the apartment. We became more serious that July and yeah, that’s how it all started.”

“ah come on! That’s all I get?” I laugh at how he sounded like a little kid.

“do you want to hear the story or not?”

“fine,” he gives in, “but will you answer just two questions?” I nod, figuring that couldn’t be too hard. “You got pregnant that summer, right?”

“um, yeah. Katelyn is six right now and will be seven on April 24th.”

“okay. And did you go to college in the fall?”

I totally forgot he wouldn’t know about my job now. “Right, that’s probably important information. No, I didn’t end up attending college. But I’m currently a world famous baker and I think that’s better than being a college graduate.”

“hmm….what’s my favorite thing that you make?”

I chuckle, “you need your rest Adam.”

“but I want to know. This could be the memory boosting fact.”

“I highly doubt that. And even if it is, we’ll find out tomorrow.”

“but-”

I rest my head on his shoulder, “goodnight Adam.”

“fine. I’ll go to sleep after one more thing.”

Okay, now I was literally getting impatient. I hadn’t slept much these past couple of weeks and now that I finally got a bed, let alone his arms around me, I wanted my sleep. “what Adam?”

He leans over so that he’s a little closer to me. “Can I kiss you?”

“and what happens if I say no?” I ask playfully.

“I’d do it anyways.”

“so I don’t have a choice?”

He smiles and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear, leaving his hand there. “no, you don’t,” he whispers, his breath warm against my skin. He gently presses his lips against mine. The familiar feeling makes me want it that much more. I definitely didn’t realize how much I missed this until now.

I pull back and smile, “now got to bed Adam.”
