Delicacy

This delicate house they've built for me,
a glass hut as reflective as it is attractive,
invites everybody with its imaginary letters,
and welcomes nobody
as I protect myself
from the guests I've invited and
from the friends I've made.

Her delicate house whom her founder's built,
made fragile from her rude guests,
has left her entrance wide open
yet it looks as if
the glass door is closed
and the man I see inside
is my braver, brighter, welcomed shadow.

These delicate houses I've seen,
all with their doors wide open
as the guests they whitelist
are masters of demolition,
further breaking down their palaces
as they blacklist us repairmen.

These delicate people,
shattered and armored,
timid and attention-seeking,
have accepted
a world of glass palaces and
a world of glass breakers,
giving up on us similarly shattered men
who all we wish to give
are bricks.
