chapter eight: graphium weiskei
Y/N'S P.O.V.
After dinner that night you go out to the lake to wash off. Typically you go out during the day but time just slipped past you so you hadn't gone out until now. You throw your head back and relax, enjoying the only alone time you ever get these days. Besides, the water is typically freezing at night, but right now it's a bit warmer than usual and it just feels so good.
Suddenly, you hear the sounds of leaves rustling. You lean up straight and cover your chest with your arms. "Tsukishima!?" you call out, but there is no answer. "Kuroo?!" Still nothing. Thinking it was just an animal and no longer hearing any noises, you go back to minding your own business.
About a minute later, you hear a branch crack this time. Something bigger than a rabbit is around. "Not funny guys!" you shout. "Just come out already!" Nothing.
You sink down a bit lower in the water, nervous as to what could possibly be out there. Do you stay and fight it or retreat back to the bus?
"I swear to god I'll pull my gun on all three of you the next time I see your fucking faces! Come out here now!" you finally put your foot done.
Much to your surprise, a woman about the same age as you emerges from the dark. Though it's hard to see, you can tell she has long hair and glasses. One of her hands caresses her stomach while the other covers her mouth as though she's trying not to tremble in fear.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to spy on you but I'm starving. Do you have anything you could spare?" she asks quietly.
Surprised to see yet another person your age, let alone a woman, you step out of the lake and wrap yourself up in the towel you laid out. You then pick up your clothes and hand them to her.
"Thank you," she says politely. "My name is Kiyoko. I got separated from my husband. I was wondering if you could spare any kindness. Anything is greatly appreciated."
"Of course," you smile as you reach out your wet hand to her. "Come with me." She accepts the gesture and allows you to guide her to the bus. It's a quiet walk, but you don't want to make her any more nervous or uncomfortable than she already is.
When you return, the guys are already inside the bus and don't hear you come back. That is until you open the bus door and step inside. At first, they stare at you in shock to have the audacity to approach them in only a towel, but their eyes quickly shift to the strange woman holding your hand, and your clothes, behind you.
Tsukishima shoots up from his spot on the couch. "Who the hell is this now?!" he asks.
"Calm down," you sigh. What else were you expecting from him? "This is Kiyoko. She's just hungry, that's all."
You sit her down at the table beside Bokuto and turn around for a moment to grab an airtight container labeled 'dried fruit' and hand it over to her. "I made this myself," you smile proudly.
"Can I have some too?" Bokuto asks as he watches Kiyoko stick her hand inside.
"Sure, go ahead!"
He bites down hard, not realizing how chewy the fruit is, and cringes at the taste. "What the hell? You ruined fruit! Doesn't even taste like fruit at all anymore!"
"Well then you can go out and get your own food," you chuckle before turning your attention back to Kiyoko. "Here, you can take the whole thing."
"Thank you," she says politely once more, "for the food and the clothes too." She then absolutely devours the food until there's nothing left. That's when she decides she's ready to talk. "My husband, his friend, and I were traveling to Monimiaceae," she begins.
"Monimiaceae? What's over there?" you ask curious.
"It's where I grew up. I wanted to go back to my old family home and look for my parents before searching for a way out," she tells the four of you.
Bokuto scoffs as he rests his head on his palm and pouts slightly. "There is no way out," he huffs before explaining to her his experience in the abandoned airports.
Kiyoko looks upset but doesn't bother shedding a single tear. She must have total faith that she'll find a way out. It's then that you decide to stop the conversation.
"Kiyoko, would you like to spend the night here before heading off?" you ask.
Her eyes light up at your question. "I'd love to, that would be so kind, Y/N. As long as it wouldn't be too much trouble for you..."
"Of course not," you smile. "I don't mind at all. And these guys are my guests too so they don't get a say," you tease, though none of them disagree. "You can change into the clothes I gave you and use the sleeping bag on the ground," you say as you point to the small blanket-covered sleeping bag just below the couch Bokuto sleeps on.
"That would be just great, thank you again."
"No problem, get some rest," you tell her as you hand Bokuto his crutches. "Come on, let's give Kiyoko some privacy."
