1974
(So they're both 13 in this chapter)
Maeve entered the middle school, she was new to town and knew absolutely nobody. But, that made no difference to her and walked around like any other normal kid would.
She walked into the seventh grade hall and was already late to her first class. She opened the door and everyone looked at her.
"Ms. Arnello. You are late."
"Sorry." She said.
"It's alright, Class we have a new person joining us today. Come up, don't be shy." He ushered her to the front of the class.
"Introduce yourself." He said when she looked at him.
She sighed and looked to the class "Im Marie and I like to... draw?" She said, but it sounded more like a question.
"Great, thank you Marie, now please take a seat next to Vance."
She looked around and saw a blonde boy who looked up at the sound of his name, he just raised his hand ever so slightly off the desk, and she went over to him.
She sat down next to him, he glanced at her. He had curly blonde hair, his knuckles were bandaged as well.
"Hi." She whispered. He looked at her and then back down to his pen on his desk.
He didn't answer, and she felt annoyed at that. She listened closely to what the teacher was saying and waited for the bell to ring.
When the bell ring, they packed up and left. Everyone headed to their next class, and hers just happened to be Math, right where Vance was headed as well.
She sat to another boy this time though, who seemed to actually enjoy her company.
After school, she walked home. But happened to accidentally run into Vance.
"Watch where your going, asshole." He said, annoyed. He pushed her down to the sidewalk and people started to surround them, expecting a fight.
"It's not my fault, your the one that should be watching where you're going." She rolled her eyes and stood up.
He narrowed his eyes at the girl "What'd you just say to me?"
"Yeah, you heard me dickhead." She said, he grabbed the collar of her shirt.
"I don't know who you think you are, but I fucking run this shit, not you." He sneered, and got closer to her.
"Prove it, then."
He smirked and let go of her collar, she fell but quickly got back up.
"Your not that bad." He muttered and the people groaned and started to leave disappointed.
"Thanks. Neither are you."
"It was Marie, right?"
"Yeah. And your vance?"
"Yeah."
"What do you do for fun around here, Vance?"
He smirked at that question, he had just the thing in mind.

And so that was how their friendship started, with a fight, then they went to the gas station and played the pinball machine.
"Here, you have a try." He smirked at moved away.
She sighed "Fine fine."
She played, and she got a score of 60'000, which was so close to beating him but she didn't, and if she did he would've cried.
"Oh damn, I was so close." She sighed and moved away, Vance smirked in victory.
"And I am still on top, that is all that matters."
