Convincing a Mexican mom to let a boy stay over isn't easy
So, when Marie's mom walked in on a boy on her couch, and her daughter kneeling in front of him, she was definitely angry.
She walked in, and then turned around. She gasped and dropped her groceries.
"¡¿Qué hace este chico aquí?!"
(What's this boy doing here?!"
"Mamá! Este es vance, mi amigo. Sus padres eran malas personas, trataron de pegarle."
(This is vance, my friend. His parents were bad people, they tried to hit him.)
"¡¿qué?! Que horrible."
(What?! How horrible)
"Sí, entonces me preguntaba si podría quedarse con nosotros esta noche. En el dormitorio de invitados, tal vez?"
(Yes, so i was wondering if he could stay with us tonight. in the guest bedroom, maybe?)
Her mom sighed and Vance looked at her with a look saying 'Please'. She could tell that he was crying and genuinely upset, and she wasn't heartless.
"Alright. Fine, he can have the guest bedroom." She sighed and grabbed the groceries.
"Thank you, Ms. Arellano." He thanked her, he was genuinely appreciated.
"No problem, no problem, come eat come eat, please, I insist." She ushered them both into the kitchen.
Her mom pulled aside Marie for a second.
"¿Estás seguro de que está bien tener aquí?"
(Are you sure he's fine to be here?)

(Mom, he is a good person. He just has bad parents. I went to his house because he is failing his classes, and his parents argued for a while and his dad got mad when he saw me with him. He asked me what he was doing with a whore like me.)
She gasped "¡¿Él te llamó qué ahora?!"
(He called you what now?!)
"Sí. Así que, por favor, sé fácil con él. ha pasado por mucho"
(Yes. So please, go easy on him. He's been through a lot.)
"aprobado."
(Okay.)
"gracias mamá, gracias gracias." She wrapped her arms around her mom tightly.
(Thank you, mom. Thank you thank you.)
Her mom hugged her back, and then they went back to the table where Vance went over the notes that they wrote earlier.
Marie smiled and sat next to him "So I see your doing something." And her mom went to cook for them.
"Oh, where's Robin?" Her mom asked.
"He's in his room, I think."
"Hmm.. alright." She shrugged.
