Ayleen's POV
My eyes were switching between the pile of books and Clara, I wanted to spend some time with her before heading back to the house, which led to her suggestion to finish it here while she did her work. I was doing my best to focus on my book, but who was I kidding... My eyes kept on going back to studying her features, how her fingers moved against the keyboard in such soft strikes, I felt mesmerized, quietly wishing to be that keyboard.
Suddenly her husky voice interrupted my thoughts, "Are you studying your book or me?"
"It's impossible to focus when you are sitting across from me," I pouted searching for attention.
However, her sudden answer surprised me. "So you rather not see me at all," she fired back, upset.
"You know how hard it is for me," I began. "With work, university... Serena," I spoke quickly as I got up from my seat making my way around her desk.
"And me? Where do I fit in all of this?" Her voice got lower, she sounded sad.
"I want to spend more time with you," I reassured and continued. "I really do, but you know we lead different lives, you knew that before any of this started." The moment I noticed her blank expression looking back at me, I instantly regretted my words.
"Alright," she said shortly, her attention back to her laptop completely ignoring my existence.
"I am traveling to see my parents tomorrow, I'll be gone for the weekend," I told her softly knowing that this would only upset her further. I could see her gritting her teeth in frustration as she simply nodded her head.
"Be careful and safe travels," she said without looking up.
I sat down on her desk and closed the laptop in hopes of getting her attention. She sighed heavily and leaned back in her chair looking at me with cold eyes.
"I was thinking maybe you want to do something fun before I go?" I attempted to be seductive. "I miss your touch," I added.
"Here? While I am working?" Her expression did not change, that was not the answer I was hoping for as I grew conflicted.
"Well, I can't later. I need to pack and I thought maybe.. we can have some time for us now..?" I rested my hand on hers, however she quickly withdrew them and left the chair in order to walk toward the window.
"So you come to my workplace expecting me to put everything aside to fit your schedule because you cannot fit me in yours? Am I always going to be the one compromising for this relationship," she spoke calmly but with growing anger.
"No, that is not what I meant," I told her surprised that this was how she viewed my offer.
"Then what is it you meant?" She questioned walking toward me, I got nervous from her serious attitude.
"I just mean, I am leaving.. and we didn't have time for us in so long. I wanted to please you, I wanted to be enough so you don't look elsewhere," my words made her stop in her tracks, she stared at me for a few seconds which felt like hours.
"So you are here to throw me a bone to keep me tamed? Because you don't believe I can remain loyal to you?"
"No!! That's not what I said!" I jumped off my chair and walked towards her, she raised her hand in the air to stop me.
"Leave," was all that left her lips as she walked up to the door and opened it up for me to go.
"Clara.." I tried to speak but the lump in my throat was getting too painful, I took a deep breath, collected my books while trying to stop the tears from flowing in front of her, and left her office without looking back.
