Clara's POV
Once my work was done I rushed back home, this time not with Ayleen but a mailbox on my mind, because for the entire day all I wanted to do was to go and see if there were any threats. When I finally opened it up, which required a code number there were a couple of letters.
"Trash, trash, interesting..." I said while shuffling through some pointless ads till I set my eyes on a lingerie magazine with quite an attractive cover. Focus. "Anyway," I muttered and kept looking through the rest till a black letter caught my attention.
Putting everything aside I opened it up and my heart stopped. Taking the pictures out, one by one, all of them were taken from a distance, some were as simple as me getting coffee, some with my mother.. and even Ayleen. What worried me was, half of them weren't even recent...
I jumped when I heard Ayleen open the front door looking at me funny. "Are you okay?" she asked and I quickly put the paper inside the letter, hiding it in my bag.
"Hello Angel, missed me?" I tried to change the topic but then my phone rang. "One moment," I told her and took the call. "What is it?" I asked irritated.
"Clara..." it was Katherine and by the tone of her voice I already knew. "I tried, I swear," she kept on talking but I simply scoffed. "Please, let's meet up in an hour, we can't talk about it on phone."
"Okay," was all I said before I hung up.
My eyes went back to Ayleen who was innocently looking at me with that worried and cute expression. How was I going to tell her... Sighing heavily I went straight for the sofa, patting on my lap I called her, "Come here baby."
She didn't question but instead did as told, I placed my arms around her torso and brought her closer to me. "I tried..." I whispered as I caressed her hair. "It's not that simple and as much as it pains me this decision is out of my or Katherine's hands. I am sorry Angel."
"Ah..." she uttered, I could hear the disappointment in her voice which pained my heart. "It's okay, you tried that's all that matters," she reassured me and pulled away to give me a small smile. "Thank you," she told me sincerely.
"Mhm," I hummed and brought her back to me, feeling on edge with the pictures I found in my mailbox, and Ayleen's presence was the only way to keep my worries away.
"I need to get back to sort out some stuff," I told her with a saddened expression.
"It's okay, I agreed to meet up with Marcus, let's have dinner together when we are both back home."
However, after the word 'Marcus' I heard nothing else. "Marcus?" I hissed and tighten my hold.
"Um..." she seemed hesitant. "Yeah he texted, he wishes to explain and apologize."
"He can fuck off," I scoffed and she planted a quick kiss on my lips.
"Clara, I don't like this tension between us, at the end of the day he is your cousin, you are family and I don't want to be the reason you guys fight, let me talk to him and maybe I can resolve whatever is going on," she said as she caressed my cheek.
"He thinks he got some hold on you and that pisses me off, you are mine." I removed her hand and pulled her.
"I am yours, no one can ever change that baby, not Marcus and not Katherine," she said rolling her eyes and I understood the message she was trying to send me, I guess we are both not pleased.
"Text me," I said while tightening my hold on her waist.
"Relax, baby.. I will text you," she giggled. "It's cute when you are protective like that," she joked and I couldn't help but smile at her playfulness.
