Clara's POV
A buzzing phone woke me up, I groaned and reached out beside the pillow but it wasn't in its usual place, that's when yesterday's event began to come back.
My phone! I jumped out of bed, losing balance right away realizing that I fell asleep in my work attire, I took a second to collect my thoughts and grabbed the bag emptying it right on the bed in search of my phone.
Incoming call: Katherine
I quickly declined the call and scrolled through my messages and voice mail, nothing from Ayleen, just bunch of messages from Katherine about our new case and an occasional few from the office.
I opened my E-mail and saw a cancellation E-mail from my airline apologizing for the inconvenience and stating that due to the weather conditions my flight will be rescheduled for Monday, that's when Ayleen comes back.
I threw my phone on my bed and dragged myself to the bathroom, my body was aching, I slept in a weird position due to exhaustion. Taking a quick look in the mirror, my makeup was smudged and I looked like a mess, scoffing I undressed quickly and got under a steamy shower, allowing the water to massage my aching muscles.
Once finished I wrapped the towel around my body and sat on the edge of my bed, getting my phone I scrolled through the contacts pulling up George's number, it took a few rings for him to pick up.
"Clara? what happened?" I could tell that he was sleeping but I did not care, I needed someone to reach Ayleen and I knew that George will be willing to help, he may not be 100% on my side but at least he wasn't against me.
I quickly explained the entire situation and my conversation with Marcus, he listened attentively, he did not interrupt me once, which encouraged me to talk to him about the entire situation and how it made me feel and that I felt betrayed by Marcus's action.
"I am sorry, Clara.. I wish I had answers for you, I do not know have an excuse for how Marcus is acting, I was worried about Ayleen at first but I came to realize that you do actually care for her," his words have slightly calmed the storm in my mind, but I was still too proud to ask him to call her and help me explain.
"I do care about her." That was all I could say.
"Do you want me to call Marcus?" I could tell he was confused about why I called him. This might have been the first time we had a serious conversation, and I just vented to him.
"Don't mention that bastard to me" I sighed massaging my temples, trying my best to ease the headache.
"Then.. Do you want me to call Ayleen and explain?" he asked me with caution and I tried to gain my composure and not sound too desperate.
"If you believe she would listen," I said clearing my throat and I heard him trying to hold back a giggle.
"Sure, I insist, let me try," he offered reassuringly. Not knowing what else to say I asked him to let me know if he managed to reach her before ending the call.
Ayleen's POV
I knew she was trying to reach me and I knew I should give her a chance to explain but right now my heart was aching too much to deal with this conversation. Marcus told me everything about her and this Katherine, that she is one of the few women in Clara's life that got the title of a 'girlfriend' not only that but Katherine was the one to leave Clara, deciding to keep their relationship under friends with benefits so she was not one of her casual hookups, she went back to her after every time, she was a constant factor in her life.
Marcus spared no details in telling me everything that Clara ever said about this woman, how she knew how to push her buttons, how she was her perfect type, how she was everything that I am not.. maybe if Clara were the one to end things, my mind would have been slightly at ease.
