I thought after a few days, Buck would be right, and things with Fiona would blow over. But almost a week had gone by, and I still had not heard from her.

I sat on the stairs of Maddie's new place, trying to focus on the GED textbook in my lap as Chimney explained how she could operate her new security system. My test was later that afternoon, and while I had done a great deal of studying in my time being unemployed, I still felt nervous about my performance. It had been years since I had stepped foot in a high school, let alone taken a test in one.

"Do you think it's too much?" Maddie worried, coming down the stairs behind me after Chim made a comment about the level of security she desired.

But I understood. Had I had the resources when I moved to LA, I would have probably done the same amount and maybe even a step further. I mean my current apartment had three locks on the door as it was. God, I missed my apartment.

I peeked over the pages on American history to see Chimney shrugging with a rather fliratious smile on his face if I did say so myself.

He shook his head curtly and chuckled. "Three motion sensors in the living room? I mean, maybe. Unless you're trying to keep Tom Cruise from getting his hands on your NOC list."

Maddie offered him a skeptical look.

"Mission: Impossible. No?"

She shook her head, "Sorry, haven't seen it."

"Who's Tom Cruise?" I interjected, trying to contain my amusement when I saw their faces drop slightly, "Just kidding," I laughed.

Chimney rolled his eyes, closing down the tablet, "You sure know how to age me Bluey."

Maddie headed towards the front door where Buck and Eddie were loading in the couch, leaving him and I in the living room. He sat on the step below me and tried to peek over the book to see what I was doing, "So how's the studying going, Einstein?"

"I'm doing my best. I'm not gonna be the next Marie Curie, that's for sure. But at least I can say I somewhat passed high school." I replied.

"Hey, no matter how old you are or how you achieve it, receiving a degree is an accomplishment. Don't take that away from yourself. Now.. let's see here," He snatched the book away from me to begin quizzing me on vocabulary related to ecological science.
