Mrs. Wei was left flabbergasted at the sight of her son looking so pathetic like an abandoned wet cat by their doorstep. The zany humour was that in Zhan's arms was indeed a poor trembling kitten! 'Heaven must have gone cray!'
Zhan grinned at her from ear to ear. It has been so long since he had been so animated and happy. "Mother, look what I've brought home!" The glow in his eyes radiated throughout his face.
Mrs. Wei can't help but be humoured whilst worriedly ushering Zhan inside. "Come in quickly!" A thick towel was wrapped around Zhan posthaste. "Give me the poor thing and take a bath! Your face looks pale from the cold rain! Hurry up before you catch a c---!" *Achooo* Zhan's sneeze stopped the nagging at once. And before Mrs. Wei can make a come back, Zhan cheekily pecked his mom on the cheek and ran to his room leaving blots of water on the ground.
This was when Yibo came out from the study hearing the voices outside the room. His eyes automatically followed the blotches on the granite floor and the fleeting figure of Zhan dashing away.
He only motioned a small nod to a stunned Mrs. Wei before he curiously chased Zhan's course.
He thought he would need to knock on Zhan's room to pry on what the older was upto. But think not, because the elder was actually waiting for him outside Yibo's own room.
"Ge?" The younger called and Zhan's head spun quickly at him.
As soon as Zhan saw Yibo in the distance, his eyes wondrously glistened more obviously, it can be compared to the glowing sun at noontime: blinding and intense. "Look, Bo-di! I got a cat which looks like you!"
Zhan's notion and cackle that followed unexplainably knocked Yibo's breath away. Zhan, beaming him his bunny smile should be illegal! Yibo felt a rushing lava flowing through his vessels, flaming his heart, and burning his eartips bloody red. These reactions were extreme and bizarre!
"D-Don't you like it?" Zhan's face turned solemn and glum when Yibo did not show any signs of fancy towards his new kitten. The sparkle in the elder's eyes dimmed and his smile turned into a flat-pursed line.
Zhan was dispirited, reflectively thinking maybe what they've lost could never be brought back neither could he build new ways to reconnect with his Bobo.
Witnessing Zhan's exuberance fell apart, a pesky type of guilt crawled under Yibo's skin. This gnawing feeling, justified or not, made Yibo came out of his daze immediately.
The flare of his unfathomable feelings for this Gege pushed his back, gave him courage.
Yibo was the first to step further, to get closer.
"I love it, Ge." His tongue slipped what his heart whispered.
Both felt their cheeks heated from the Freudian slip, a little awkward on how to proceed. But Yibo braven his guts and did not shy away from the honest mistake. He drew closer and caressed the kitten's white furr between Zhan's hold.
He might have been a little tense, a little lost, a little edgy, his fingers accidentally grazed Zhan's own more often than not. And his whole body reacted intuitively at that short touch.
It was electric. It was ecstatic. It was simply what it was and something that was not. Strange.
