*Sophie's pov*
Loud bangs filled the air around my house as the bombs fell to the ground. My mum and I had been sitting together eating dinner when it started.
"Hurry up, Soph! Come on, we have to go!" She screamed at me.
I ran to my room and picked up the necklace that Peter gave to me for Christmas 2 years ago. Peter Pevensie. He's my best friends brother but I also have the biggest crush on him. If only he felt the same... Our parents have been friends for years because the Pevensies' live just down the street from us. That's where my mum and I are headed now.
We run out the door, ducking and trying not to fall as the falling bombs shake the ground. As we near the Pevensies' house, I can hear my heart beating in my chest! I can hear the cries of the family as we run to their back garden where their shelter is.
"Dad!" I hear the all too familiar cry of Edmund Pevensie, Peter and Susan's younger brother. I see him running out of the shelter towards the house, with Peter running behind him shouting.
"ED, COME BACK! IT'S TOO DANGEROUS! ED!!"
My heart starts beating faster as my mother and I make it into the shelter.
"NO! PETER, ED, COME BACK!" I cry, and then burst into sobs on Susan's shoulder and she sobs into mine.
Lucy, the youngest Pevensie child, sobs into her mothers chest as both mothers try to soothe her. I hear the slight pounding of footsteps over the loud bangs that fill the air, as the door is flung open and Peter and Edmund run inside. Susan and I back away from each other as Edmund runs straight into Susan's arms and Peter starts shouting at him.
"Why do you always have to be so selfish! You only think about yourself. Why can't you just do as you're told!"
Ed is shaking in Susan's arms holding the smashed photo frame of his father against his body, hugging it tightly. By this time, I am sitting against the wall hugging my knees to my chest and crying into my arms. I feel myself being lifted onto someone's lap and I curl up into them, crying against their chest. I hear them sigh and then I hear the soothing sound of Peter's voice in my ear.
"It's okay, you're fine. We're going to be fine, Soph. Don't cry."
The sound makes my heart beat faster and causes me to stop crying and look up at him. He's looking down at me with a sorrow-filled expression.
"I'm sorry, Pete." I sniff, "I'm acting like a little child right now." I giggle a little, still sniffing.
He chuckles and I feel it vibrate on my head which is still resting on his chest a little bit.
"I think anyone would feel that way if they were in your position, Soph..."
I sit up straighter looking around the room. Lucy has stopped crying and is now sitting on Susan's knee as they're having a conversation with Edmund. Our mothers are sitting together on a little camp bed that was put in the shelter in case of emergencies like this. I look back at Peter to see him staring at me and I blush slightly, smiling at him.
"What?" I laugh, "What are you looking at me like that for?"
He chuckles at me again, and replies, "Nothing! It's nothing."
I climb off his lap and sit beside him, snuggling my head in his shoulder. At this moment in time, anyone would think we were a couple but we aren't, we're just really close friends. I wish Peter would see me like that but he probably only thinks of me as his little sisters best friend.
"How are you feeling?" I hear his voice from the side of me.
"Okay, I guess... You?"
"Yeah, I'm good."
"Don't be too hard on Ed, Pete. He just wanted the photo frame. He wasn't thinking, he's just a child." I say quietly to him as I lay down with my head on his legs.
He straightens his legs out and starts playing with my hair before replying.
"I know, Soph, but sometimes that's the problem. He doesn't think and it ends badly."
"I was really worried you know... I couldn't imagine losing either of you but almost losing both of you terrified me!" I say staring straight up at him into his eyes.
"I'm sorry." He replies, frowning.
"Don't be. You had to protect Ed, I would too. He's like a little brother to me." I start to tear up at the thought.
"No more crying, Soph. It's okay. Ed and I are fine! Shh!" Peter soothes, quickly wiping away the falling tears from my cheeks.
At that moment, Susan , Lucy and Edmund sat down beside us.
"Why's Sophie crying?" Lucy's small voice asked Peter.
"It doesn't matter, she's fine now. Right, Soph." Peter replies calmly, avoiding eye contact with Edmund.
"Yeah, I'm absolutely fine, Lu! No more tears." I chuckle lightly, sitting upright again, beside Peter. "Hi Su. Hi Ed. you okay?"
They both reply with a small, "Yeah."
"Well I think it's about time we got some sleep, yeah?" I asked softly, looking over at Peter.
" I think that's a brilliant idea." He replied, sliding down the wall into a laying position.
The others followed, Susan laying beside him, Lucy beside her with her head on her chest and Ed on the other side of Lucy. I carefully stood up and made my way over to the other side of the room and picked up the only 3 blankets from the ground. I walked back over with them, laying one across Ed, one across Su and then one across Peter. Then I lay down beside Peter, with no blanket because there wasn't enough, but I was fine with that.
"Soph, you can't sleep like that, you'll freeze to death!" Peter whispered to me sounding really concerned.
"I'm okay, Pete, just go to sleep. I'll be fine." I tried reassuring him, but it didn't work.
"No way, I'm not going to let you freeze. Come here." He argued, opening his blanket for me to get under.
I sighed, knowing I had lost this argument, and slid over to him and laying closer, putting my head on his chest again. He wrapped his arms around me, and pulled me closer trying to give us more warmth. I know this is wrong, but it feels so right. This is my best friends brother, I shouldn't be feeling this way but I'm enjoying laying like this. I'm sure Susan won't mind if it's only because of blanket shortage, right? I snap out of my thoughts realising everyone else is asleep. I can hear the soft snores of Peter from above my head, Susan's usual heavy breathing and Ed's louder snoring. I chuckle quietly and feel Peter stir a little so I stop and snap my eyes closed. I can hear Lucy making noises in her sleep a little like she always does and it makes me smile knowing that even though my dad is away to war along with the Pevensies' dad, leaving mum and me alone while he's gone, I know these people are my family and I love them dearly. I sigh in content and snuggle further into Peters chest. Slowly falling into a deep sleep.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
