*Sophies pov*
We're standing on the platform in the train station. I don't like this. The Pevensie children and I are being sent away to some professors house to be safe during the war. I don't want to leave my mum! I can tell Peter, Susan, Ed and Lucy don't want to leave either but we know it's best for us. I'm really going to miss my mum and Mrs Pevensie though. Where will they be going? Will they be safe? They're not telling us anything other than the fact that we'll be boarding the train in less than 10 minutes but they're not coming with us. I can see how scared Peter is. We all are, but as the oldest, he feels he has to protect us all. Susan and Edmund aren't too bad, I know they'll miss their mother and they're frightened too, but the aren't as bad as Peter. I think Lucy's taking it the worst though. Her eyes are glossy and some tears are escaping even when she tries to force them back. She is only 10 years old, I can't imagine what's going through her head right now. She's too young to understand anything except that's she won't be seeing her mother for a while.
"You warm enough? Now honey you have to keep this on you. Be sure and keep this on." I hear Mrs Pevensie say softly to Lucy.
"Okay, mummy." Comes the small reply and my heart breaks at how close to tears she sounds.
Susan notices too and I see her face fall as she pulls Lucy into her side more.
"You be a big girl now, Susan." She says, glancing at the almost sobbing Lucy then looking away before she starts crying herself.
"Of course, Mother."
"Edmund you will listen to your brother, won't you?" She asks hopefully, knowing how Ed and Peter's relationship is when it come to this.
"Yes, Mother." He replies sarcastically, though she doesn't notice as she gives him a smile and then turns to Peter.
"Oh Peter, take care of your siblings and Sophie, will you?" She says finally, turning to look at me as she says my name, giving me a sympathetic glance.
"I promise, Mother." He says, glancing sideways at me before turning back to her and giving her a smile.
"Goodbye, Sophie, dear."
"Goodbye, Mrs Pevensie." I say, giving her a small smile which she returns.
"Now, Sophie, I'll see you soon. Be good for Peter, he already has a lot on his plate looking after his siblings, don't make things harder." My mother turns to me after watching Mrs Pevensie address her children.
"Yes, Mother, I promise. Please be safe."
"I will dear. Remember your manners and don't give the professor any grief, he's a very busy man."
"Goodbye, Mother."
"Goodbye, dear, see you soon."
"Goodbye, Mrs Blakely." All 4 of the Pevensie children say together.
"Goodbye, dears."
"Come on then." Peter says solemnly, grabbing my hand and pulling me along behind him as Susan grabs Lucy's and Ed follows behind.
We walk together, looking for someone to show us where to go. Peter spots someone and pulls me over, the others still following.
"Tickets, please." The man says, holding out his hand for Peter to hand over our tickets.
I look over at Peter, expecting him to hand over the tickets in his hand but he's spotted something in the distance and is too busy focusing on that.
"Peter!" I hiss quietly, grabbing the tickets from his hand, smiling at the man as I pass them over. The man is looking at Peter very strangely.
He gives me a small smile in return as Peter snaps out of it, quickly realising what I wanted. I give him a questioning look and he looks away from me. The man shows us where to go and we board the train, finding a spot near the window so we can wave to our mothers one last time. I put my head out the window, Peter standing behind me with his head above mine, seeing Susan and Lucy doing the same at the other window and Ed just managing to squeeze his head through another. We wave to our mothers as they push their way through, spotting us and waving back.
Once we're out of the station, everyone takes their seats, a lot of people standing due to lack of seats. I'm sitting with Peter on one side of the table and Susan, Ed and Lucy are squished up on the seats on the other side. It's then I realise how tired I am and I lay my head on Peter's shoulder, soon falling asleep for the train journey.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke to us being one of the last stops of the train. Peter was shaking me awake, as Susan was shaking Lucy, who must have fallen asleep after me.
"Come on, love, we'll be there soon. You have to wake up." He says softly in my ear, so he doesn't startle me.
Peter helps me out of the seat as I'm still a bit groggy from my sleep and I grab my small bag, Peter grabbing his and Lucy's and Susan and Ed getting their own. The train slows to a stop and the doors are opened for us. We step out onto the platform, which is completely empty except from us, and walk down the little stairs at the side leading to the road. A few cars drive past but none stop for us and it makes us a little nervous.
"The professor did know we were coming, right Pete?" I asked nervously.
"Perhaps we've been incorrectly labeled?" Suggested Ed.
Suddenly, there's a sound of whipping coming from down the road getting nearer. Then a horse appears from around the corner, followed by a chariot. I am amazed by it and I can tell Lucy is too. The chariot stops in front of us.
"Mrs Macready?" Peter asks.
"I'm afraid so. Is that it you brought anything else?" She asks, no expression in her face.
"No ma'am, it's just us." I answer her, now even more nervous.
"Small favours." She says, looking a bit annoyed.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Peter's pov*
We walk up the stairs of the professors mansion, Mrs Macready leading us, letting us know all the rules of the house.
"The professor is unaccustomed to having children in his house, and as such, there are a few rules we need to follow."
She reaches the top of the stairs and waits for us to catch up.
"There will be no shouting' or running', no improper use of the dumbwaiter,"
We reach the top and Susan reaches out to touch a statue,
"NO touching of the historical artifacts"
Susan's hand snaps back and she holds it to her chest in fright.
"and above all, there shall be no disturbing' of the Professor." She finishes, looking at each of us in a menacing way, pointing to a door just down the hall.
She guides us through the corridors and stops outside a room, telling us that this was the girls room and they walked in waving to us.
"You and Ed come back along to our room in 10 minutes." Sophie whispered to me as she passed.
I smiled at her letting her know I would, and Ed and I continued following Mrs Macready down the hall. We passed about 3 doors from the girls room, when Mrs Macready stopped, telling us that this was our room and we were to be down for dinner in at 6 o'clock. It's 4 now, so Ed and I unpacked our bags and went along to the girls room. When we walked in Susan and Lucy were lying on a double bed, Susan reading and Lucy talking to Sophie, who was sitting on a single bed at the bottom of Susan and Lucy's. All 3 of their heads snapped over to us as we entered, Ed going to sit on the arm chair sitting in the corner of the room beside Sophie's bed and me sitting down next to Sophie.
The next hour and a half was spent with the 5 of us just sitting talking and laughing trying to make us forget about the war and how much we miss our mothers. Now it's 6 o'clock.
"Come on then, we better go down for dinner or the Macready will have our heads." I told them. All of them groaned at the thought of her and I chuckled following them out the door and down to dinner.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*Sophie's pov*
"These sheets feel scratchy!" Lucy complained as Susan and Peter tucked her in, Ed and I standing behind them watching.
"Wars don't last forever, Lucy. We'll be home soon." Susan replied softly.
"If home's still there." Ed scoffed.
"Isn't it time you were in bed." I replied snarkily, annoyed at how Ed was treating his siblings.
"Yes, Mum." He replied sarcastically.
"ED!" Scolded Peter, "Don't worry, Lu. Anyway, you've seen the garden, tomorrow is going to be great, you'll see."
He smiled at her, bending down and kissing her forehead, before quickly getting up to leave, sending a shy smile at me on the way past.
"Night, Soph." He said quietly, "Night, Su."
"Night Pete." We replied together as he left, going down the hall to his room.
Susan and I sat on the floor for a bit after that, talking quietly so Lucy wouldn't be woken. It felt so good to have my best friend all to myself again. I missed chats like this with her, we hadn't had one lately due to everything happening and all.
"So....." Susan laughed quietly, giving me a small nudge in the ribs.
"What?" I laughed, not quite understanding her.
"I'm talking about the crush you have on my dear older brother!" She giggled, makin me turn bright red in the face and putting my head in my hands trying to hide my blush.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" I replied, my voice going a few pitches higher, something it always does when I'm lying about something.
"Oh, you definitely do. I know you, Soph, you're my best friend."
"Alright!" I caved, "You're not mad are you? Oh my god, you are! I'm sorry. I can't help it! I mean, he's so funny and smart and handsome and caring and-" I rambled, losing what I was saying because I was thinking too much about him.
Susan laughed quietly at me, "Of course I'm not mad you loon! I think it's great, you guys are perfect for each other!"
"You think so?" I asked shyly.
"I know so!" She confirmed, "He likes you you know. Always has."
"No he hasn't, Su, don't be ridiculous! He couldn't possibly like me." I blushed.
"Why ever not?" She asked, shocked I would say that.
"Because I'm me, he could do so much better, Su. I'm nothing."
"Now who's being ridiculous! Any person would be lucky enough to have you, Soph. And I know my brother. He likes you."
"Really? You swear?" I asked timidly.
"Cross my heart." She answered with no hesitation, making me believe her.
"So what should I do then?" I asked.
"I'll talk to him, okay?"
"Yeah. Thanks, Su. I'm going to bed, goodnight." I yawned, getting up from the floor and walking over to my bed.
I peeled back the covers and getting under them, snuggling in and falling asleep thinking of one person.
