When my alarm sounded Monday morning, I was about to cry. I had only finished about half of my missing assignments, and I was exhausted from doing nothing the entire weekend.

School was a dreaded place. I avoided it when I could, which may or may not be a good thing. I had finished most of my classes, for the summer, but the one class I needed to finish was Mr. Reed's. He was the youngest teacher at the university, but by far the strictest.

A group of students have the option to go to America with him for the second half of our schooling next year. Of course, I need to get all my assignments done in order to go.

I walked into class on time and handed in my late assignments to Mr. Reed. "Is this all of them?" He asks.

"I need to do some more, but I can get them all in by the end of the week," I promise. He looks up at me, with raised eyebrows.

"Stay after class."

"But-"

"Stay after class," he glares. I felt like punching him in the face, but walked to my seat in silence.

After class, I stayed in my seat while everyone filed out. Once the last person left, Mr. Reed shut his door and faced me. I shifted uncomfortably under his harsh stare.

"So," he says, quite loudly, "school ends on Friday. Are you aware of that?"

"Yes," I simply answer.

"Any summer plans?"

"Yeah I wanted to-"

"Cool. I don't really care. Any exciting things happen recently?"

"Well I actually met this guy-"

"Hm. Still don't care," he cuts me off again. "How's work?"

"Okay I guess-"

"I don't actually care," he says again.

"What's the point of this?" I ask, getting annoyed.

"Oh? Is me not caring bothering you?"

"Well yeah, but just don't ask about me if you don't care."

"So you mean if I don't care about something I should stop doing it?"

"Yeah."

"So maybe you should leave," he says.

"I'm sorry?"

"You don't care about this class, so drop it."

"I-I do care."

"Doesn't seem like it to me."

"Well I do," I snap.

"Then why haven't you gotten your assignments done?"

"I told you I'd get them done."

"No, no. I don't want your assignments anymore. You're not going to America. End of discussion." I shoot up from my seat.

"What?!?!"

"You're not going."

"No. You don't understand-"

"I don't?!" He raises his voice. "I think I understand just fine. You don't care about your work in this class, you don't get to go to America."

"What can I do to let you allow me to come?"

"Why do you need to go so bad?"

"You wouldn't understand."

"Try me."

"It's too hard to explain."

"Then, how about this. I won't make you finish your assignments and you can go to America-"

"Really?!"

"Hold on. On the condition that you type an essay on why you need to go to America."

"Deal."

"Alright. You're dismissed."

When I got home, I began to think of reasons why I wanted to go America. After I jotted a few notes on my laptop, I had the whole night for myself.

I made myself some pasta and poured a glass of cheap wine. After that, I slid on some shoes and walked to the nearest ice cream shop, to make this Monday a little better. I got an excited feeling, when I walked passed shops with advertisement for summer in the window. I loved summer. Nice weather, no school, ice cream, it was just great.

When I got back from ice cream, I turned on my little stereo and opened a few windows. I then took a long, relaxing shower. I changed into a big t-shirt and didn't bother with pants.

I plopped into my bed and went on my phone. I was exhausted, so I turned it off and closed me eyes.

I may have had my eyes closed for two minutes, when it dinged with a text. Harry.

I need your help.

Okay?

I don't know what to do for my date with Carly this weekend.

This isn't the only reason he talks to me, is it? I decided to push that thought away, which I may regret sooner or later.

Well, it's supposed to be nice this weekend. Maybe you can go to the zoo.

Perfect. Thank you!! I'll stop by the bar sometime this week and say hello. Goodnight xx

Sounds good. Night x

Do friends text with x's? I pondered over the situation for a couple minutes, before I grew tired again. This time, I put my phone on silent and curled up, drifting off to sleep.
