I ended up going along with Imbra on a tour of the castle. The place was massive and beautiful. The architecture was thousands of years old but still seemed to have a modern touch. We engaged in small talk. They mainly just explained what each room was and who had stayed in the castle before. After that, we sat down in the library to have some chorus fruit tea. It was interesting to see that they made the tea themself and not some random servant.
"I have a question for you." I know they said that we could catch up, vent, or whatever, but I've had something nagging at me since I woke up in that cage.
Imbra smiles politely. "I'll gladly try my best to answer any of your questions."
"What are Watchers? Like what do they do? Are they nice?" They seem to be pretty powerful if they can heal seemingly with a snap of their fingers. And possibly from afar too, because Karl didn't mention actually seeing the Watcher, he just knew about it.
"Ah, Watchers. They're not commonly talked about, so it would make sense that you wouldn't know who they are. They should be talked about more since they are technically a part of each government," Imbra mumbles the last part into their sip of tea. "The Watchers do many things. They work under every leader of each land, but mostly here in The End. That's due to the fact that they are born and recruited here. The Watchers' jobs are to watch over the ruler, protect the ruler, take notes on important events or meetings, watch over the timeline, and on occasion they are warriors. They are quite interesting people to look at. They have beautiful purple wings and are quite tall."
"Like how tall? Us tall or taller?" It's a dumb question but I have to know.
"Taller. They're up to twenty feet(6 meters) tall."
"So, they could theoretically heal someone's vocal cords?" I just want to confirm what Karl said. Not that I don't believe him, I just want to be certain.
Imbra nods, "Yes. They could. They have some quite powerful magic, they just mostly choose not to use it or use it for healing like you asked about."
I take a long sip of tea. "Interesting."
This part of the conversation came to a kind of awkward conclusion. I don't know what else to talk about. Do I really want to talk about my trauma right now anyways? I don't even know Imbra that well yet, I think it would quite odd to open up now. And do they even want to hear about my trauma or were they just trying to be polite because I got angry? I don't know what to do. How do I keep a conv-
"Can I ask you a question now? You don't have to answer if you don't want to," they take a sip of their tea.
"Ask the question and then I'll decide whether or not I want to answer," I shrug. I'm not trying to be rude, exactly, it's just... I'm having a hard time cooling my anger.
"Well, I guess it's not really a question but rather something I've been wondering about... Well, you see... Endermen don't exactly have a gender. Obviously, we have the means to reproduce, but we're not men or women like 'most' people. So, I just didn't know if that's how you presented yourself or if you were forced to gender conform."
"How did I not know about the genderless thing?" I mumble. "Well, I didn't know about Endermen not having genders. I guess I was conformed to be male, I hadn't really thought about it before... What does that feel like for you?"
Imbra pauses for a moment, taking a short sip of their tea. "Ah, well, for me... I just feel like I don't fit into the society boxes of man or woman. I kind of feel like both and neither at the same time. Some days I feel more feminine while other days I feel more masculine and sometimes I feel both or even androgynous. It just depends on the day or sometimes the people I have to interact with."
"Huh," I reply. Well, now I'm just confused. Welp, guess I'm going to have a gender crisis now.
a/n Imbra's gender thing is just how I feel about my gender, not everyone feels that same way. I just wanted to make that clear in case anyone was confused/concerned. Also, something I don't know if I mentioned before or not is that there are three different realms. There's the Overworld that is ruled by a president. There's the Nether which is ruled by a king. And obviously, the End has a ruler. I just figured I should clear that up if I hadn't mentioned it before.
